June 16 2012 Toy Making Workshop
The RCWA Toymakers held a Toy Workshop on June 16th. We met on Saturday morning from 9 am til noon
at the RCWA Shop at 910 Wood Avenue
in Rapid City, SD.
We recently implemented the use of an operations sheet (referred to
as an Assembly History Tag) for every box of toys in work. We adapted this from a "high tech" aerospace
production line (similar to General Motors) for use on our toy production line. To date, every box in work has been tagged
with its own AHT. We hope this will make
it easier to keep track of all operations performed on a given box or group of
toys.

First order of business at the workshop included
unloading and sorting/stacking two pallets of cutoffs purchased from Magnum
Enterprises, transported to the RCWA Shop by Rick W and his trusty
trailer. Activities at the June 16th workshop
were performed by six members who worked at installing wheels on wheeled
vehicles, painting axles, spraying sealer on wheels, and second sanding on soon
to be wheeled vehicles. Many members
took home boxes of wood to finish in their workshops/garages. This included operations such as first time sanding,
the roundover routering, second sanding using Mouse sanders, the sealing of the
toy, and some piece part fabrication. A
few boxes of traced items were delivered to Roger Bares for cutting as
well. Members participating in this
month’s workshop included Rick, Lon, Larry, Richard, Kathie and Bob.
