Work behind the Scenes

As you know, a lot of the effort to build toys for the TOY PROGRAM takes place behind the scenes in members shops.  An excellent example of this is the toys just completed by Julian Wigen.  He has been working on boxes with tops for a few weeks.  Here are the results of his efforts:

There are 25 small boxes and 46 of the bigger boxes.

As reported in the previous blog:

Lon brought in two boxes of shaped and sanded busses and vans.  Rollie brought in over 300 shaped and sanded batman cars and several other wheeled vehicles.  Basketball parts for bases and backboards were cut by Rick and delivered to the workshop.  Lon completed over 50 paddle games and delivered them.

Way to go LON and ROLLIE !!!

Wheels for TOYS - 2015 Shipment

The shipment of wheels for Toys for the 2015 Toy Program were received today:

Toy Wheels - 7,200

Tractor Wheels - 200

Toy Workshop - CFB - Saturday March 28th, 2015

Reminder - we will be having a toy workshop on Saturday morning from 9 to noon at the shop at the Club for Boys.  Hope to see you there.  Bob B

Attendees (10):

Lon Gose, Al Oines, Richard Rasmussen, Rick Weisbeck, Kathie and Bob Buchanan, Rollie Lynde, Darwin and Lauree Buus, Grant Coffin.

Activities:

Rick Weisbeck cut turtle banks using his scrollsaw.  Al Oines drilled windows in wheeled vehicles.  Kathie traced dinosaur critters.  

Lon brought in two boxes of shaped and sanded busses and vans.  Rollie brought in over 300 shaped and sanded batman cars and several other wheeled vehicles.  Basketball parts for bases and backboards were cut by Rick and delivered to the workshop.  Lon completed over 50 paddle games and delivered them.

Lon loaded up two more boxes of blanks to work on.  Al took home two boxes of locomotives to work on at his shop.  Grant took home a few boxes of toys to cut.  Rollie brought home a few more boxes of critters to cut into smaller blanks.

Equipment failures - blown fuse in Dewalt Scrollsaw, and loose adjustment knob in the other Dewalt Scrollsaw slowed our progress slightly.

Bob Buchanan shared his new walking duck pattern and sample duck with the group.  We will need to locate some supplies including NEOPRENE for the ducks wings and feet.

The wheel requirements for 2015 were discussed and clarified at the workshop.  Bob will be ordering wheels in the upcoming week, so that we can start preparing them for assembly on wheeled vehicle body parts.

Scroll Saw Special Interest Group (SS SIG) - March 19th, 2015

SS SIG on March 19th at Rick's shop. 

Topic will be 3D scrolling. I will set up blanks and patterns for giraffes. Every one liked the ones I brought and I hope to give anyone who comes a chance to try it.   Darwin said he would bring some other patterns. Should be a good time. Maybe crowded.  I will have two saws to play with.   Rick W.

March 2015 General Meeting of the RCWA

March 9, 2015

The general meeting of the RCWA for March will be held on March 9, 2015 at 7 pm MDT at the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City, SD.

Rick report:  Just got back from the meeting and things went well.

Richard has the Saw mill tour set up for the 22ND of April. 1PM - we need a 
list of people who will go, so they know how many guides they will need. 
Will need to get a count at the April meeting. Bell says she wants to go, but will 
not be at the Apr meeting.

We will have a toy exchange on Sat March 14Th 9AM. I will talk to Mark.
Next toy workshop on the 28Th.

Richard said he would bring refreshments - we talked about give away and raffle stuff for the Show. It was suggested that we change up some things, like a Dump truck and other bigger toys for the raffle. Will need to talk more at April meeting - will need to set up Who is doing what for the Show. it is coming up fast.  Will set up the display case in April. Need people to 
bring in display items to the April meeting.  

CFB committee had a meeting after the meeting and they have most of a 
plan. It sounds good - need to work out details of when and how much time 
we have to  do this,  so still some work to do.

Wes wanted us to come up with a list of stuff for the tool sale in June, so we 
might want to put that in the agenda for the next meeting also.

Ed pike brought  a  HD intarsia - it was very nice. He had other things in 
his case that he had made for his store in Hill city. Lon got pictures.
