Twenty-one members of the RCWA traveled to the Nemo Community Center in Nemo, SD, on Saturday for our annual Christmas Family Potluck luncheon. Hosts Patsy and Jerry setup tables, chairs, music and the tree for the event. Patsy, Kathie, Ron, Rick and Cori put on table cloths and decorated the tables. Grant made outdoor smoked turkey, a treat we look forward to each year. This was the best turkey yet! Patsy and Jerry served a mighty fine ham for the other main dish as well. We started our luncheon about 11:30 am.
Lots of great salads, breads, and desserts filled out the really enjoyable luncheon.
We started the meal with Kathie giving thanks for all the blessings of the past year, followed by lots of eating and visiting.
After lunch, Bob spoke to the group thanking everyone for all their efforts during the year in our toy making endeavors. He reported that even though we have given almost 40,000 toys out to kids over the past 15 years, there are still kids in town who haven't received any and could use a few. This was based on a conversation at Sam's Club last week with a grandma who had just recently been given custody of a large number of grandkids to watch over.
Patsy surprised us by handing out gifts of embroidered "Old Red Trucks" she made on her embroidery machine for each family. Thank you Patsy!
The road to Nemo was clear, and the gathering concluded by 2:30 pm and everyone was home long before dark. Thanks Patsy and Jerry for hosting and making the event very enjoyable. Thanks to all attending as well.

After lunch, Bob gave a brief "speech" thanking everyone for all their efforts during the year in our toy making endeavors. He shared some tidbits about how many toys were given away and to whom. Then he shared his latest time per toy calculations. He passed on sharing the cookies per toy ratio for the year as it is pretty much pie in the sky type calculations, even though based on many good memories.

Beautiful October weather in the 70's found us sanding, routering, cutting, building, packing, and making parts for toys.
Hand sanding activity involved sanding airplane wings, airplane fuselages, race cars, whales, ducks, small cars, rotors, and basketball game back boards.
The Batman cars were cut to shape on the scrollsaw.
Wheels were installed on eleven different types of toys for a total of 183 toys put into inventory for Christmas giving plus 2 Love Bugs.
Airplane wings were installed on fuselages (about 125 out of 155 to build). Other new toys were cut to shape on scroll saws.
Tugboats Parts are being milled in preparation for the final build of 100 traditional Tugboats.
Basketball game parts are being milled including backboards and bases.
Major progress was made on lots of toys that are still in work. This effort is held under the big tent in the parking lot. The curved edges of these toys were sanded on oscillating sanders, their edges were routered, and their flat sides sanded smooth.
Improvements to the work shop continued with two sets of shelves added to closets.
Many members are still working on toys at home shops and then bringing them to the toy workshops for further activities.
After the workshop, several members went to a home in West Hills village to pick up surplus wood. Jerry, Bob, Tony, Rick and Ron helped pack up wood from a basement. This wood (walnut) was then brought to the Shop on Wood Ave for sorting and distribution. Many thanks to Jim and Marilyn Reaser and his brother Dave Reaser for their generous contribution of wood to our organization.
It was a perfect day for a picnic as 22 members of the RCWA met for the annual summer family potluck picnic. This picnic has been hosted by Bob and Kathie every summer since the organization was formed in 2008. This is a thank you to all the members who have given of their time and skills during the past year to make the toy giving efforts so successful.

Activities included Target Shooting with Magnum rubber band guns, ice cream making, corn hole competition, chatting, and eating. Plus more eating!
