Scrollsaw Special Interest Group (SS SIG) 11-21-2024

The ScrollSaw Special Interest Group (SS SIG) was held today from 1 pm to 3 pm at Rick's shop in Black Hawk.

Attending:  Bob, Kathie, Rick

Today's discussion centered on how to build small ornaments with reindeer, moose, bear, and elves, riding on sleds. These were featured in the Scroll Saw Woodworking and Crafts Magazine.

Other projects discussed included various fretwork patterns such as a PENQUIN, 3D Christmas accessories, 3D Jingle Bells, Trivets for Thanksgiving, and techniques used for the Sled ornaments. 

 

SS SIG (10-17-2024)

The ScrollSaw Special Interest Group (SS SIG) was held today from 1 pm to 3 pm at Rick's shop in Black Hawk.

Today's discussion centered on how to build a small working router for making 1/8" roundover passes.  This is important in finishing off many smaller toy parts.

Projects discussed included various fretwork patterns such as a trumpet puzzle, Christmas ornaments, and a penguin.  These were featured in the latest Scroll Saw Woodworking and Crafts Magazine.

Ken finished a box of toys at home, so transferred them to Bob to seal.

Show and Tell:  Rick explained the techniques he uses to make the plexiglass windows used on the Turtle Banks.  It is a combination of CNC router cutting the plexiglass, and a jig used to safely drill the holes for the brass pins used to hold the plexiglass to the turtle bank bodies.

The ScrollSaw Special Interest Group (SS SIG) was held today from 1 pm to 3 pm at Rick's shop in Black Hawk.

In the past month, Rick went on a long road trip, and cut out the project from the Scroll saw Workshop magazine.  He showed us his completed layered scroll saw cutting of a wolf in  the trees and explained how he made it.  Very impressive!

Today Rick prepped some more 3D cutouts.

SS SIG 8-15-2024

 ScrollSaw Special Interest Group (SS SIG) was held today from 1 pm to 3 pm at Rick's shop in Black Hawk.

 Attending:  Ken, Jerry, Bob, Kathie, Patsy, Rick, and Bob A.

In the past month. Rick prepped the John Deere tractors  for the kids Saturday's Theshing Bee by routering the edges and sanding the flat sides, ready now for  the Threshing Bee.

Today Rick prepped some 3D cutouts.  Jerry did a demo cutting a 3 D lamppost.

Rick also prepared a great work project from the Scroll saw Workshop magazine.

Today we reviewed the status of our efforts to be ready to support the Aug 17 community event in Sturgis.

Rick has the 2" wheels, the vans, and the racetrack.  Jerry has 3 tables and 4 chairs.  Bob has the rest of the tools, supplies, and the other supporting gear loaded up.

ScrollSaw Special Interest Group (SS SIG) was held today from 1 pm to 3 pm at Rick's shop in Black Hawk.

We finished cutting all 55 tractors for the upcoming threshing bee.  Rick will router the edges and sand them for the Threshing Bee.

SS SIG 6.20.2024

The ScrollSaw Special Interest Group (SS SIG) was held today from 1 pm to 3 pm at Rick's shop in Black Hawk.

 Attending:  Ken, Grant, Jerry, Al, Cleon, Bob A, Rick, Bob and Kathie

Activities today:

Introduced Bob A and Cleon to the scroll saw.  Practicing scrolling by cutting boat hulls and Threshing Bee tractors.  Discussions about 3 D cutting.  Tracing, drilling and cutting Threshing Bee tractors (50).

Cleon has just completed 2.75 hours of introductory scroll sawing under pressure.  He earned the certificate of Junior Scroll Saw Artist!
