NINTH ANNUAL WOODWORKING SHOW

The show featured displays of fine woodworking projects
by individual members. The theme for the show was “Wooden Toys in Motion”. The group showed collections of Old Tools and
game tables for kids and adults including marble games, kangaroo races,
basketball games, giant and medium JENGA games, and a Love Bug race track. There were also live demonstrations of
wood turning, scroll sawing, toy-making, and computer controlled routers.
Visitors to the show were given the opportunity to receive the free monthly
club newsletter as well as lots of door prizes of handcrafted wooden items made
by members. In addition, a raffle was held for several fabulous wooden items.
Proceeds will be used to buy supplies for the RCWA’s Toy Making Program for
less fortunate children in the Black Hills.
Woodworking demonstrations included several
projects including explanations of how to make wooden toys, how to turn bowls,
pens and tops on a lathe, and using a scroll saw to make name signs, bowls, or
vases. Interested children received their individual names cut from wood to take
home. Visitors watched toys being made and could help sand toy parts. Members
of the RCWA shared tips and advice as well as swap ideas for techniques and
projects from those attending the show.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) One Rapid City hardware store got a makeover this weekend as the local Woodworkers Association transformed the Knecht's on Omaha into a toy store.
It was the group's annual toy show and some 30 members of the association set up shop in the store to display some of their wares.
Many woodworkers also brought their tools and machines with them to demonstrate how they go about their craft. From what we could see, everybody was having a great time.
“It's the ninth time we've done this,” said Bob Buchanan from the Rapid City Woodworkers Association. “We bring in all the toys and projects we've been working on all year just to show people and let people know that we have a woodworking group in town and they can come enjoy and have fun with us.”
Members of the association build toys all year round and deliver more than 2,000 to area charities during the Christmas season. (Story by Stewart Huntington- KOTA TV)
