Toy Workshop 4-13-2019 (TWS 2019-07)

Members gathered on Saturday April 13, 2019 at the Club for Boys from 9 am to noon for a Toy Workshop (TWS 2019-07).  This was after a three day blizzard that dumped an average of 18" of snow on members' homes.  The Interstate 90 was closed until noon yesterday. "No Travel" advisories were in effect in Sturgis, Hill City, Deadwood, Lead, Nemo, Black Hawk, and Rapid City on Wednesday and Thursday all day, and Friday until noon, due to blowing and drifting snow.  Temperature at game time today was 24 degrees F, with an expected high of 40 degrees.

    Drilling windows, axles and starter holes for fretwork

    Scroll sawing critters and 2" thick toys

    Hand Sanding of sealed toys

    Final assembly and packaging of Paddle Games (51)

    Wheels installations - Bears, and Firetrucks

Details:

Darwin and Frank returned the puppy ears after cutting to shape (60).

Lon returned a box of toys that he cut out, sanded and routered, that are now ready for sealing. 

After finishing the paddle games, a large number of wooden ball/string assemblies were completed.

Al Oines brought back the smaller firetrucks, after sanding the window holes on his oscillating sander.  They are now ready to be spray finished.

The sanding crew sanded a box of toys that are now ready for final finish spraying.

Frank brought in 12 cradles fully assembled and ready for finish spraying.

Rick brought in a box of about 250 basketball hoops that were cut on CNC routers by Jim and Dick at J&D Woodworks in Black Hawk, SD.   Thank you Jim and Dick for your continued support of the toy program with these very important parts for our basketball games.

Greetings to the Woodworkers of the Black Hills!

We have had a few weekends off, but we will make up for it real soon, with 5 events between now and the end of the month.  The busiest event of the year, next to toy deliveries, is coming up, at the end of the month.  This is our Annual Woodworking show set for April 27th, 2019 at the Knecht Home Center.

Our April General Meeting was held on Monday April 8th, 2019 at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City, SD from 7 pm to 9 pm.  We covered the final plans for our 11th Annual Woodworking Show as well as shared SHOW AND TELL items.

The following activities are planned for April 2019, so mark your calendars:

a.  General Meeting:  Monday April 8th, 2019 at 7 pm at 910 Wood Ave

Toy Workshop 3-23-2019 (TWS 2019-06)

There was a toy workshop held on Saturday March 23, 2019 at the Club for Boys from 9 am to noon.

    Tracing, cutting, packing, labeling blanks

Items traced today included:

30 New puppies with movable ears from 2x6 stock. Darwin and Frank will trace out 60 ears on 1/4" stock at home.

Remainder of the CFB racers (CFB-02) in preparation for the July 2019 Pinewood Derby at the CFB.

1016-102 - traced final 25 of 40.

30 New Shark Cars 1016-112 on 2x4 stock

40 Tater Bugs (made new pattern from sketch)

20 Chicken critters

20 Teddy bear critters

Darwin and Frank teamed up/divided the work to cut the puppy ears in home workshops.

Scrollers cut all redwood Caravans to shape, then were moved to Bob's shop to further refine the cut for the trailer hitches.  

John Wolf brought in a box of critters he completed that are now ready for inventory.

Al Oines brought back the larger firetrucks, after sanding the window holes on his oscillating sander.  They are now ready to be spray finished.  Lon took a box of toys home to cut, router, and sand.  Don took several boxes home to do the same.  Wes Murphy donated a ten gallon Shop Vac for cleaning up after our workshops.  Rick did some maintenance on it, we used it, and we stored it in the back store room at the CFB.  Thanks, Wes!  Rollie says it's a good machine.  Darwin brought in boxes of scrap 1" dowels for use on log trucks and tugboats.
