Critter Bags were filled on Dec 2, 2019.  A total of 134 bags were filled and will be added to the inventory.  They will be brought to the Club for Boys on Saturday Dec 7, 2019, for packing and distribution to less fortunate children in South Dakota.

Toy Workshop 11-23-2019 (TWS2019-24)

Toy Workshop 11-23-2019

Today was the final Toy Workshop for 2019.  About 12 members came to build the last group of toys for the year.  By 10:30 am, wheels were installed on the remaining toys.  About 161 toys were packaged and taken to inventory.  This included a group of heart boxes that were delivered to inventory during the week.  The last task for the season will be sorting and bagging about 1,000 critters into the hand-sewn cloth bags, which will happen before the Dec 7th packing/distribution day efforts.

Results today:
    Toys completed, packed and sent to inventory:  161
    Total Toys in inventory to date:  3,213 + 161 =  3,374

"End of the Year" Events

End of 2019 Events:

The Toymaking Marathon began on Sept 7th, 2019. We had a Toy Workshop at the CFB Shop every Saturday from 9 to noon. We will have our final Toy Workshop for 2019 on Saturday Nov 23, 2019 at 9 am at CFB.

Toy Packing/Distribution Day is Saturday Dec 7th, 2019 at 8:30 am to noon at CFB: 8:30 am Pickup at Rick's/Setup at CFB.

Toy Delivery to YFS: Tuesday Dec 10, 2019 - pickup at CFB at 8:30 am, arrive at YFS at 9 am.

Annual Christmas Family Potluck: Saturday Dec 14, 2019 at Nemo Community Center at 11:30 am.

Results today:
    Toys completed, packed and sent to inventory:  154
    Total Toys in inventory to date:   3,059 + 154 = 3,213

Planned Activities:
     Final sanding of ring toss games
     Rings with strings to be attached to ring toss games
     Hand-sanding several boxes of toys (143)
    Some routering and rough sanding, depending on what is returned

Activities today:
     Ring Toss sticks were turned at home by Al and Ed.  Strings and rings were added today.
     Wheels were added to vans, helicopters, oldies, and Love Bugs
     Heart boxes were made by Jerry H at home.  Lauree added felt inserts this week, and counted, packed and sent them to storage.
     Final hand-sanding

Results today:

     After final hand-sanding (143), these are ready for final spaying.

     Two boxes of Love Bugs have wheels installed and are ready to go.

November 2019 GENERAL MEETING 11-11-2019

A large number of woodworkers came out in +5 degree weather to attend tonight's monthly meeting of the Rapid City Woodworkers Association (RCWA) held on Veteran's Day 11-11-2019.

As you can see in this photo of veterans in the RCWA, Veterans make up a large percentage of the RCWA membership.

We are almost done with toy making for 2019 with approximately 200 toys in the last stages of completion.

Plans for Packing and Distribution of 2019 toys were announced and discussed.  This will happen on Dec 7th, from 8:30 am to noon at the Club for Boys.

Our final event for 2019 will be our annual Family Christmas Potluck Dinner to be held at a new location this year:  the Nemo Community Center, on December 14th starting at 11:30 am.

    Toys completed, packed and sent to inventory:  259

Planned Activities:
     Installing wheels on caterpillars, helicopters, Love Bugs
     Final sanding of ring toss games
     Rings on ring toss games
     Strings on cup and ball games
     Drilling holes in Caravan trailers for spare tire
     Hand-sanding several boxes of toys, including Caravans (cars + trailers), and three boxes of other toys
    Some routering and rough sanding, depending on what is returned

Toys shown here are being sprayed with a final water-based polyurethane clear finish, ready for wheels or rotors to be installed.

 Ring Toss sticks were turned at home by Al and Ed.  Here, the Ring Toss sticks and Love Bugs are being sprayed with a final finish.

    Heart boxes were made by Jerry H at home.  Here they are being sprayed with  a final coat of spray;  they still need to have felt inserts added;  Lauree will do homework.

 Results today:

After rough sanding, and routering, there are six boxes of toys ready to be sealed:  143 Toys to be Sealed.  This includes a box of toys back from Dr. G at ICU and miraculously are ready for final spray.  (Note:  Toys were sealed on 11-10-2019 and are now ready for hand-sanding before final finish is applied.)

Four boxes of critters were completed and turned in for packing into cloth bags.

Two boxes of Love Bugs (71+) have wheels installed and are ready to go.  

After final hand sanding, two boxes of toys are ready to be spray finished for next weekend.  (Note:  final finish was applied on 11-9-2019 afternoon, and are now ready for wheel installs.)

Caravans were fitted with wheels (6) here at the TWS.  The trailer hitches and the spare tires will be installed at home.  Final spray finish will then be applied.  Slightly out of order, but still works.  (Note:  Trailer hitches and spare tires and final spray was completed on 11-9-2019 afternoon.)
