The Wood Turning Special Interest Group (WT SIG) was held on March 29, 2023.
All RCWA members and guests are welcome to attend. It is on the calendar for the last Wednesday of each month at 1 pm. It is held in Jim and Maggie’s Shop at 2879 Spotted Fawn Lane, Rapid City, SD 57702

Members attending included Dave Maude, Al Oines, Ken, Lon, Jim Brown, Maggie, Jerry, and Rick and others.
Today Dave Maude demonstrated how to turn the Tops that he makes for the Toy Program. Currently Dave is using the hex shaped pieces from Magnum Enterprises to make Tops. He handed out blanks for people to try their hand at making a top at home. Dave burns a few rings into the tops with a wire between handles, and pointed this out during his demonstration.
Rick brought his bowl gouge to ask about why it keeps catching. It was discovered that the shape was incorrect and needed to be changed with the sharpening grinder. This was demonstrated and then Rick tried it on a bowl blank with much better success.
The WT SIG is planned for the last Wednesday of each month at 1 pm at Brown's Shop. Mark your calendars!
