Toy Workshop (TWS2024-08) 4.27.2024

 


We held our eighth Toy Workshop (TWS) for 2024 on Saturday April 27, 2024, from 9:00 to 12:00 am.  This was held at the Wood Shop at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City.  The shop is in the basement of the annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

It was a cool day with rain showers in the forecast.  We stayed inside today handsanding, drilling and cutting.    

The attendees at today's workshop (25) included Harley, Julian, Keith, Lon, Ken, Cleon,  Nick, Lauree, Darwin, Al, Don, Jerry, Dee, Mary Jo, Maggie, Jim Brown, Kathie and Bob, Darwin's friend Kurt, Russ, Denni, Gary, Norma, Roy, and Nick.

WT SIG 4.24.2024

The Wood Turning Special Interest Group (WT SIG) was held on April  24,  2024.

All RCWA members and guests are welcome to attend.  It is on the calendar for the last Wednesday of each month at 1 pm. It is held in Jim and Maggie’s Shop at 2879 Spotted Fawn Lane, Rapid City, SD 57702.

Thank you to Maggie and Jim for hosting and preparing today's Woodturning SIG.

Today's SIG was a planning session for the rest of the year around Jim's new dining room table.

RCWA Assists Rangers with Pinewood Derby 4.12.2024 and 4.13.2024

 A few RCWA members spent Friday evening and Saturday morning at the Assembly of God church on Highway 16 assisting members of the Rangers building each Ranger's pinewood derby race car.  After the RCWA members assisted with shaping and sanding the cars, the kids painted their vehicles and added weight to their car in preparation for the race next weekend.

Toy Workshop (TWS2024-07) 4.13.2024

 

We held our seventh Toy Workshop (TWS) for 2024 on Saturday April 13, 2024, from 9:00 to 12:00 am.  This was held at the Wood Shop at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City.  The shop is in the basement of the annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

It was a warm day with 80 Degrees expected by noon.  We worked outside with sanders, routers, and a bandsaw today.    

The attendees at today's workshop (16) included Harley, Julian, Keith, Lon, Ken, Ed, Cleon. Nick, Lauree, Darwin, Al, Don, Jerry and Patsy, Rick, Joseph, Kathie and Bob.

Ed brought in two boxes of toys cut and ready for sanding, routering, etc.  Ed also took a couple of boxes of blanks home to work. Activities today included sanding, routering, bandsawing and scrollsawing toys to shape, drilling windows and axle holes in toys, handsanding critters, and gluing tops of cabins to bottoms of cabins, then tracing the shape on the cabins.
