RCWA Meeting Minutes

Introductions/ New Members:

Welcome to Sarah Pauley who is interested in finding an instructor to help her with a few specialty wood working skills.  

Treasurers Report:   

RCWA received $121 in donations.  Bob, AL, Tony, Lon were reimbursed $670.95 for expenses.   We earned $0.93 interest in the workshop account and $0.02 in the savings accounts.  Current balances follow.

Nothing to report this month.

Special Interest Groups

Next Scroll Saw SIG is scheduled for September 19th tentatively at Rick Weisbecks home (6704 Kimberly Drive, Blackhawk) from 1:00-3:00 p.m. 

Turning SIG is scheduled for Sept. 25 1:00-3:00 will be held at Stu Kelloggs house, 1116 West Blvd.  There is a planned demonstration for turning threads.  

General Meeting

Next general meeting will be October 14, 2024 at 7:00 p.m.  Al Oines will bring refreshments.

Other Topics

Black Hills Battles is scheduled for Sept. 14, 9:00-12:00, at old Story Book Island.  There are 55 giraffes and numerous vans ready for the event.  Stu will bring the racetrack (load on Friday).  Bob will bring wheels, hammers, crayons, wheel presses.  Jerry will bring tables.  

Hats with the new website url are available for purchase for $15. 

Summer Potluck – the decision was to cancel the summer picnic.  The next social gathering will be the Christmas potluck, Dec. 14 at Nemo Fire Hall.

Wood Recovery

The club has accomplished a number of wood recovery trips including a trip to Custer a week ago.  Recovery items include small scraps of rose wood, red heart, purple heart, zebra wood, olive wood, and spalted maple.  Several planks of spalted maple remain and members are encouraged to select planks for home use.  

Toy program

Next Toy Workshop will be Saturday, September 21, 2024.  We will meet every Saturday until toys are completed.  

Toy distribution is 7 Dec. 2024.

We will create a mouse sanding table downstairs to do some final sanding.  The station should be ready by the next Toy Workshop, September 21.  

Toys  traced 3300 toys, 1130 are done

Heart boxes – need some help
Jewelry boxes – need some help, ½ inch wood, Julian will make
Basketball – 100 bases, 65 backboards, hoops, Ken will assemble
Rocking chairs – Rick
Tugboats – 106 made
Motor Boats – 30 finished
Race cars in various stages, similarly with trucks, log trucks need a new jig
Cement trucks – done, need a drawing for tracing next year
Buses are taken care of
Locomotives are all cut
Tractors – 106 brought in finished
Critters – 1000 critters instead of 100
Love bugs – need to make quite a few yet
Helicopters – 110 needed
Airplanes – in progress
Block bags – done

Tony Verchio brought in a walnut, maple, and wenge horse on wheels he had made for his granddaughter.
