Saturday September 23rd, 2017: 9 am to Noon - Toy Workshop at CFB Shop
The third week of our fall toy-making marathon!
It was a blustery day today, with cool temps and moisture in the air, so we moved the routers and sanders inside the shop, and moved the wheel assembly line to the extension room to the south of the shop.
Attendees (19): Danny Green, Bob and Kathie Buchanan, Jerry Hood, Grant Coffin, Ralph Brethauer, Paul Douglas, Rick Weisbeck (at home shop), Richard Rasmussen, Harley Schmadeke, Darwin and Lauree Buus, Jerry Nordine, Bel Felix, Ed Pike, Rollie Lynde, Frank DiCesare, Ken Maron, and Mary Jo Anderson.
Activities:
Critters - sand flat sides with stationary belt sander
Critters - router edges with trim routers on tables using 1/8" round-over bits
Critters - drill eyes
Sanding - toys with Rigid Sander
Sanding by hand - launchers and hoops
String/Ball Assemblies - prep for basketball games and cup and ball games
Airplanes: Installing wings on airplanes, then installing two wheels on airplanes
Drilling - eyes were added to critters with 3/32" drill bits
Drilling - holes were drilled in the tops of helicopters for rotor installation
Installing wheels on toys - four wheel presses set up
Inventory of completed toys: count/label/record/box up/transport

The wheel line today included Bel, Harley, Paul, and Richard.
Jerry Nordine and Ralph Brethauer assembled the last of the airplanes.
Isn't that the coolest wall paper!
Kathie and Mary Jo did the final sanding of parts for the basketball game, including the hoops and the launchers, using 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper.
The flash on the left side is Lauree, the toy wheel line JIT (just-in-time) supplier/expediter, and toy recorder/packer!
What a great facility to make toys!

Ralph and Jerry converted from airplane assembly to helicopter rotor assembly with minimal setup time and almost no re-training.
Grant and Darwin worked the "string to ball" assembly operation, preparing for the basketball game and cup and ball game builds.
Ken returned from vacation to try his hand at dremel tool critter routering.
Rollie and Danny discussed new scrollsawing techniques after spending the morning sanding toys and critters on the disc and Rigid sanders.

Jerry Hood made eyes on a ton of critters, with 3/32" drill bits.
Ed Pike and Danny Green sanded the flat sides of another ton of critters.
Frank DiCesare prepared helicopters for rotors by drilling 7/32" holes in the tops of the last group of helicopters for the year.
Rick Weisbeck - working at home shop today - running the CNC machine making parts for the helicopters, the rocking chairs, and the turtle banks. Also doing some trim routering to ease the edges of critters, while spraying wheels, and preparing parts for tractors, rocking chairs, and turtle banks!
Bags and Quilts
Patsy Hood delivered a tall stack of fleece critter bags this past week. Mary Jo Anderson delivered a number of flannel critter bags this week.
Carol Maron completed several beautiful cradle sized quilts this week. Earlier this year, Roberta Brethauer, Margaret Rasmussen and Kathie Buchanan brought in several cradle quilts as well. Thank you ladies for sharing your special talents with us!
Nine boxes of toys counted/labeled/recorded/and packaged for transport by Grant to the offsite storage location.
