Members traveled to Spearfish, SD, on Saturday April 30, 2022 to visit Larry and Druce Kelloggs for a shop tour and wood turning demonstration. Attendees included Lon, Jerry, Patsy, Al, Rick, Ron, Kathie and Bob.
Larry and Druce are members of the Northern Hills Woodworking Guild which focusses on woodturning. Larry, a retired logger, also has a small portable sawmill which he has demonstrated for us in the past.
Larry put together an interesting demo showing us how to make a small pendant type key holder with a stainless steel ring and a piece of walnut. Here's a few photos showing the process.
Larry also showed us how to get started on turning a natural edge bowl. Here's a few bowls Larry has turned recently.
This bear was made by a member of the NHWG a few years ago as a demo in the yard outside Larry's shop. It was carved with a chainsaw by a man named Rick who was a member of the NHWG.
A debriefing was held at Perkins in Spearfish.
