Toy Workshop (TWS2022-07) 5.14.2022

We held our 7th Toy Workshop (TWS) for 2022 on Saturday May 14, 2022, from 9 to noon.  This was at the Wood Shop at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City.  The shop is in the basement of the annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The attendees at today's workshop (26) included Nick Carney and son, Grant, Al, Ken, Rick, Cori, Denni, Harley, Mary G, Russ Stueckrath, Bob, Kathie, Jerry, Patsy, Gary Graves, Frank, Ed Pike, Bel, Julian, John, Lon, Lauree, Darwin, Tony, Bob and Kathie.

Gary Graves brought in 5 baby crib quilts and 25 larger cloth bags for blocks made by Pat Graves and 14 spinning tops made by Mark Rumble, a friend in Colorado.

We worked on the next phase of toymaking today as we continued drilling axle holes, drilling windows using Forstner bits, cutting toys to rough shape, sanding and routering.  There were three people cutting on scrollsaws, and one on the bandsaw.  There was handsanding of toys that had been sealed with shellac, as well as handsanding of critters and blocks for block bags.

Rick trimmed the wood tops on the equipment carts to remove the pinch phenomenon, then secured them to the metal frame. Grant attached cleats to the bandsaw base to prevent the  saw from sliding when being moved outside for use.  Rick assembled our new in the box DeWalt Scrollsaw DW788 purchased this week by the RCWA.  He added the Pegasus blade clamps purchased previously.  He will add a lift device next week.

Lon brought two boxes of toys complete thru sanding, and routering.  Ed brought back a box of toys cut to shape including windows.  Ken brought two boxes in ready to be sealed.  Jerry finished two boxes of firetrucks, complete with ladders, and a set of 25 tow truck hooks.

Several members took home traced toys to work on at home.  This included Stu Kellogg, Keith Brinks, and Ken.

At the end of the day, there were 7 boxes of toys ready to be sealed, and 3 boxes ready to be final spray finished.  At least one box of blocks is ready to be put into bags.
