We held our 11th Toy Workshop (TWS) for 2022 on Saturday July 9, 2022, from 9 to noon. This was held at the Wood Shop at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City. The shop is in the basement of the annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
The attendees at today's workshop (18) included Grant, Ken, Harley, Bob, Kathie, Jerry, Patsy, Bel, Jim Burk, Julian, John, Lon, Denni, Rollie, Norma, Mary G, Nick, and Rick.
Ken and Lon brought in boxes of toys they cut, sanded, and drilled in their home workshops.
Today we drilled rotor/axle holes, drilling holes for strings in wooden balls, tracing critters on 1" poplar, and cutting toys to rough shape. There were three people cutting on scrollsaws, and one on the bandsaw. There was three members handsanding 2 boxes of toys that had been sealed with shellac. Wheels were installed on 42 toys plus on 118 Love Bugs. There was power sanding and round over routering under the canopy outside in 100 + degree weather.
Patsy brought in her embroidery machine and stitched members names on ACE aprons for use in the Toy Workshops.
Several members took home traced toys to work on at home shops. This included Keith Brinks, Lon and Ken.
At the end of the day, there were 3 boxes of toys ready to be sealed and two boxes ready to finish sprayed. There were 42 toys sporting the new orange pegs selected for all 2022 toys, and 118 Love Bugs with blue pegs. Of these, 50 Love Bugs were packed up and delivered by Jerry Hood to the Rapid City Fire Department.
We did some housekeeping at the previous workshop by moving all Work in Progress (WIP) toys to the room adjacent to our current tool store room. Already we are seeing a major reduction in the log jambs in the tool storage room.
