Toy Workshop (TWS2022-16) 9.24.2022

We held our 16th Toy Workshop (TWS) for 2022 on Saturday September 24, 2022, from 9 to noon.  This was held at the Wood Shop at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City.  The shop is in the basement of the annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The attendees at today's workshop (18) included Harley, Bob, Kathie, Jerry, Patsy, Stu, Rick, Gary Graves,  Julian, Bel, Grant, Paul Douglas, Mary Jo, John, Al, Ken, Jim Brown and Maggie Brown.

Today Jerry, Nick , and Rick cut toys using scroll saws.  Nick drilled holes in Love Bugs.

Patsy, Mary Jo, Kathie and Maggie hand sanded various 2" and 1" toys that had been sealed with shellac.   Six boxes of toys were handsanded and are now ready for spraying.  Additionally, airplane wings were sanded today with the objective being to "ease the edges".

Harley, John, Julian and Bel installed wheels on over 180 toys.

There was power sanding and round-over routering outside under the tent in 72 degree weather.  Many boxes were finished, moving them to the next operation of sealing with shellac.

At the end of the day, there were 6 boxes of toys ready to be sprayed with finish, and 5 boxes needing to be sealed.  There were 180  toys packed, recorded and placed into inventory today.

Paul Douglas delivered over 3,000 pegs painted with the 2022 designated color - orange.  This amount is expected to allow us to finish out the year.

Gary Graves dropped by to pickup items designated on the production line as needing some intervention to bring them up to our expected standards.  We refer to this as " ICU".  Gary uses special techniques to revive the ailing toys and bring them back to life.  This includes a special putty and a few select dyes.

A new addition to the equipment pool is a shorter work table for using router tables and the oscillating spindle sander.  We set it to its lowest position today (This picture shows it in a higher position.). This was found to be much  more comfortable for the more height challenged members of the group.

The Dowels rack was "surplused" this week as well.  Ie, it was recycled/ scrapped/demolished on 9-23-2022.
