Just a quick note about Toy Workshops
The attendees at today's workshop (18) included Grant, Harley, Bob, Kathie, Jerry, Patsy, Julian, John, Rollie, Norma, Al, Stu, Russ, Nick, Rick, Frank, Gary G, and Bel.
Today Russ drilled holes in chalkboatds for cutting hand holds with the scroll saw. Jerry cut the handholds. Gary Graves picked the boards up from the workshop to do sanding, and edge and corner milling on the boards before Pat Graves turns them into real chalk boards.
There were three people cutting on scrollsaws, and one on the bandsaw. Four members hand sanded 169 airplane fusalages after being cut from 1" poplar by Rick at home on the scroll saw. There was six members handsanding boxes of toys that had been sealed with shellac. Wheels were installed on toys. There was power sanding and round over routering outside in 93 + degree weather. Hulls for tugboats (54) were sanded and routered.
Several members returned various toys they worked on at home including a box full of basketball game parts (based with launchers) from Ken. Rick brought in 123 helicopter blades that he made on his CNC router from wood scraps from Magnum Enterprises rubber band gun factory in Rapid City. They are on their way to the sealing room at Kathie's.
At the end of the day, there were 6 boxes of toys and the 169 airplane fusalages ready to be sealed, and four boxes ready to finish sprayed.
We did some more work in our second storeroom today. Rick installed three 4 foot long overhead LED lights, and assembled another six foot long three shelf unit. Now all Work in Progress (WIP) toys are located in this store room to adjacent to our current tool store room. This arrangement is working very well and making a big improvement in toy making workflow.
