Members of the RCWA came to the Shop at the Club for Boys (CFB) this week to provide assistance with the Pinewood Derby race car preparation effort for 96 members of the Club for Boys.
The race cars were traced and cut from 2x4's by members of the Rapid City Woodworkers back in 2022 and the spring of 2023. Wheels (400 @ 2") were donated to the project this year by the RCWA. Dowels for axles (1/4") were provided by the CFB. The RCWA provided the leadership and production assistance to guide a group of 96 boys thru the steps needed to build and finalize cars for the races planned for the following week.
Participating members included Rick, Ron, Bob, Kathie, Al, and Jerry.
Wednesday July 5th: Ron, Rick, Jerry, Al, Bob and Kathie came to prepare parts, establish the working process and get things rolling.
Thursday July 6th: the same group was there to support the effort of assisting the boys.
Friday July 7th: Rick, Jerry, Al, Bob and Kathie came to close out the event with the last group of boys and with installing wheels on the last group of cars.
Cars bodies were prepared and sanded in the mornings. Cars were painted in the afternoons. Wheels were glued on after painting was completed.
The races will be held during the following week.
Many thanks to Mark, Carri, and Tanner from the Club for Boys for their excellent leadership during this car building effort.
