Feb 2014 General Meeting of the RCWA 2-10-2014

Our February 2014 General Meeting of the RCWA was held in Rapid City at 910 Wood Ave tonight from 7 pm to 9 pm.  Attendees participated in Election of Officers for 2014 as well as discussions of a theme for the upcoming Woodworking Show to be held in May at the Knecht Home Center.  The current status of the toymaking program was presented.  In only three Saturday morning workshops, we have nearly completed tracing the 1200 wheeled vehicles for 2014.  There is still much work to be done, but we are getting more and more efficient every year.  We also completed the tracing of 400 race cars to be shaped and finished by the kids at the Club for Boys for their two pinewood races planned this year.

Attendees at tonight's meeting included Rick, Kathie, Julian, Steve, Wes, Lon, Richard, and Bob.

TOY WORKSHOP – Feb 8, 2014

A Toy Workshop was held at the CLUB for BOYS shop on Saturday February 8th, 2014 from 9 am to noon.
Attendees included Lon Gose, Julian Wigen, Bel Felix, Rollie Lynde, Greg Todd, Darwin Buus, and Kathie and Bob Buchanan.
We are continuing to trace patterns onto 2” x 4” stock donated by Dakota Kraft.  The stock was prepared for the workshop by Julian Wigen who ran each piece through his planer.  This saves countless hours of sanding in the toy making process.  At the conclusion of this workshop, we had completed over 95% of the tracing effort required for 2014.  There are still lots of toys to build, but the tracing effort is nearly complete.  Items that were traced today included airplane fuselages, “Oldies” cars, “Small” cars, and critters.  The total number of toys traced during today's workshop was 321 toys, bringing the total number of toys in work since our first workshop on January 11th to 1,189 toys.  This is unprecedented for this time of the year!

We also traced the remainder of the race cars for the Club for Boys which included more than 75 each of the four race car models for a total of 300 racers.  This brings the total of Club for Boys vehicles to 400.
Julian Wigen will be starting to build the 225 toys for the Hills Alive – A Day in the Park activities planned for July 19th, 2014.  We will be participating again this year by passing out toys to kids in the park.
Lon Gose brought in a second large box full of toys to the workshop that are ready for the finishing process, as soon as summer (warm weather) arrives.
