Toy Workshop 9 (TWS2021-09) 5-22-2021

We held a Toy Making Workshop at the Club for Boys on May 22, 2021.  The temperature at 8 am was 43 degrees with dense fog everywhere.   Once again, it was too damp for sanding and routering outside.


Attending (18):  Rick, Jim, Maggie, Al,  Lon, Bob, Kathie, Dennis, Tony, Gary, Frank, Ken, Bobbe, Danny, Mary, Darwin, Lauree, and Grant

Activities:

  1. Unload tools.
  2. Set up tools and work stations.
  3. Router edges of 3/4" thick critters.
  4. Cut toys and critters to shape on 3 Scroll Saws.
  5. Drill axle holes and windows in 2" thick toys.
  6. Hand-sand (final before finish spraying) hippos, rabbits, busses, locomotives, rotors for minor helicopters, rotors for standard helicopters.
  7. Toys for home shops - Several boxes of toys were taken home for work by individual members in home shops.
  8. Bob brought in about 200 finish sprayed toys ready for wheels, and about 200 toys to be handsanded after sealer was applied.
  9. Install wheels on Love Bugs (34), 
  10. Install small rotors on mini helicopters (62) and larger rotors on standard helicopters (29).
  11. Inventory, label, count, and package completed toys: 207 toys
  12. Tear down workstations;  clean up the area.
  13. Load up tools.

SS SIG 5-20-2021

 This is a quick reminder that we will have the Scroll Saw Special Interest Group (SS SIG) this evening at 7 pm at Rick's Shop.

Attendees (9):   Cori, Rick, Patsy, Jerry,  Harley S, Rollie, Kathie, Bob and Ken






 



Rick showed us plans for a Noah's Ark project to do for a silent auction next year.  This is a Steve Good plan.  Rick will make copies for gluing to wood for the next SIG.

We held a Toy Making Workshop at the Club for Boys on May 8, 2021.  The temperature at 9 am was 40 degrees and threatening rain.  It rained lightly about 11 am.  So too damp and chilly for sanding and routering outside.

Attending (19):  Rick, Jim and Maggie, Al,  Lon, Bob, Kathie, Dennis, John W, Julian, Harley, Tony, Bel, Jim Burk, Gary, Jeff (new member), Paul, Rollie, and Frank

Activities:

  1. Unload tools.
  2. Set up tools and work stations.
  3. Router edges of 3/4" thick critters.
  4. Cut toys and critters to shape on 2 Scroll Saws
  5. Drill eyes for critters.
  6. Drill axle holes and windows in 2" thick toys.
  7. Hand-sand (final before finish spraying) love bugs, racers, caterpillars, and C-cars.
  8. Toys for home shops - Several boxes of toys were taken home for work by individual members in home shops:  Rick, Rollie, Jeff, Frank, and Tony.
  9. Rick brought in 1.5" wheels - both standard size and truck wheels - sprayed and ready to install (1250 wheels)
  10. Bob brought in finish sprayed toys (175) ready for wheels.
  11. Paul brought in axle pegs - blue (5000) and green (2000) ready to install.
  12. Install wheels on Love Bugs (45) and Oldies and Small trucks (total 80). 
  13. Install wheels on Mini-Choppers; small rotors yet to be installed.
  14. Inventory, label, count, and package completed toys: 125 toys
  15. Tear down workstations;  clean up the area.
  16. Load up tools.

Woodturners Special Interest Group (WT SIG) 5-1-2021

A Woodturner's Special Interest Group met at 10 am on May 1, 2021, at Danny’s Shop.  The weather was beautiful.  Danny gave a tutorial on the basics of bowl turning.  Several members were able to take a turn on the lathe to get a feel for bowl turning including Rick, Cori and Ken.  Lathe tool sharpening techniques were discussed as well.  Some wood furnished by Grant was made available to members.
