Toy Workshop 4-23-2016


Just a reminder - we will have a toy workshop tomorrow Saturday April 23rd - once again, the nicest day of the week! - from 9 am to noon at the Club for Boys Shop.  Please bring routers, sanders, miter saws, wheels, etc. 

We have several items on the agenda including, but not limited to:
     Installing wheels on toys (100)
     Building quarter pounders for the WW Show (25) on May 7th
     Tracing tractor bodies
     Cutting, sanding, routering, and sanding of toys for the toy program
     Making wheels for CFB (80)
     Making vans for upcoming Make a Wish event - May 14th
     Cutting parts for catapult kits for CFB

If you have any items to put into the display cabinet for the WW Show - please bring on Saturday or take them directly to Knecht Home Center and give to Rick Weisbeck.  The display is in place at the store.

It was a very productive workshop today!

We completed the following:
  1. Wheels installed on over 100 toys
  2. Door Prizes for the WW show - on May 7th - completed an even dozen Quarter pounders (with Cheese)
  3. Traced over 80 tractor bodies on 1" thick poplar
  4. Routered two boxes of toys for the toy program
  5. Completed 96 wheels for the May mini-pinewood derby for the Club for Boys using holesaws (2 1/2" diameter x 1/2 " thick)
  6. Completed cutting, drilling, and routering of the Vans for the upcoming Make a Wish event - May 14th at Main Street Square in conjuction with Knecht Home Center
  7. Completed cutting of the stock for 24 catapult kids for next Thursday's event for the Club for Boys - Mark Kline coordinator.

Scroll Saw Special Interest Group - 4-21-2016

A SS SIG was held this evening at Rick's Shop - activities included cutting pairs of "Kissing Girafes" to be displayed at the upcoming 8th annual woodworking show to be held at Knecht Home Center on May 7th, 2016.

Attendees tonight included Danny Green, Paul Douglas, Jerry Nordine, Darwin Buus, Bob and Kathie Buchanan, and Rick Weisbeck.

General Meeting 4-11-2016

The general meeting for April will be Monday April 11th at J and D Woodworks in Black Hawk - 5702 Ash Street - at 7 pm.  Hope to see you there!













Jim and Dick at J&D Woodworks, Inc donated the carving of the stagecoach and horses shown below to be offered up at a silent auction held during the upcoming May 7th annual woodworking show to be held at the Knecht Home Center.

Toy Workshop 4-9-2016

Attendees Today (22):  Al Oines, Julian Wigen, Rollie Lynde, Bel Felix, Bob and Kathie Buchanan, Grant Coffin, Gary Graves, Rick Weisbeck, Lon Gose, Richard Rasmussen, Jerry Hood, Darwin and Lauree Buus, Lloyd Potter, Frank DiCesareJerry Norsen, Danny Green, Steve Larson, Ed Pike, Ron Fisher, Harley Schmadeke.

Tasks done to prepare for this workshop
1.  Seal 2 boxes of toys.
2.  Final finish on 100 toys.
3.  Build 5 cradles.
4.  Cut a box of cradle parts.
5.  Paint two bags of axle pegs (2000).
6.  Numerous boxes of toys were cut and routered and sanded.
7.  Sand and router three boxes of critters.
8.  Turtle banks - center holes were cut using a hole saw.
9.  A five drawer file was prepped for use at the Club for Boys Shop.

Tasks Today:
1.  Trace remaining small Oldies vehicles (125) for the toy program on 2x4s.  A dozen locomotives were traced on 2x6s.
2.  Inventory the 10"wheeled vehicles that are now cut to shape for the Club for Boys Pinewood Derby using the Club's 18" band saw.  Over 200 are now cut and ready for the CFB.  Wheels have not been addressed as yet.
3.  Drill axle holes (7/32") with a drill press.
4.  Drill pilot holes for scrollsaws to cut windows on numerous wheeled toys.  Eyes for pull toys were drilled at the same time.
5.  Cut critters on Scrollsaws.  Cut windows for vans and busses on the scrollsaw.
7.  Drill windows (3/4" and 5/8" holes) for Love Bugs, busses and vans. 
8.  Sand critters and cars using the Oscillating edge belt sander.
9.  Router edges of critters and cars.
10.  Sand by hand and with mouse sander toys that had been sealed.
11.  Drill holes in wooden balls in preparation for use on basketball games, cup and ball games, and paddle games.
12.  Plan the layout for the static display to be displayed at the May 7th woodworking show - it will show all the steps required to make a toy PT cruiser, from plan to final test.
13.  Wheels were installed on 48 total wheeled vehicles.  Of these, 31 toys were packed and sent to inventory.  The rest were put in a box until more toys are completed.
14.  A five drawer file was installed and filled with tool boxes.  The cabinet has a metal bar for locking the drawers in place.  The cabinet originally was used in the Hughes Aircraft Company in Fullerton, CA, before being surplussed and sold to the public in 1992.
