RCWA Delivers Special Project to YFS. 10-22-2018

Special Project for YFS:  32 crates for event decorating

The crate was designed by Jerry, Danny, Ken and others during a break at the Spearfish Knecht GAV Event on 10-13-2018.  Changes were made to the original concept, and a Bill of Materials drafted on Sample Parts.  The first Prototype was glued up - without nails.  Parts were cut by Danny Green and Jerry Hood prior to the workshop.  The crates were assembled during our Saturday Toy Workshop on 10-20-2018 at the Shop at the Club for Boys.  Dennis, Jerry, and Ken built a Jig for Production Assembly.  Then the crew on the Assembly Line - Jerry, Darwin, Paul, and Ken – got busy and, the rest is history.  Paul Douglas delivered the crates to YFS on the following Monday, 10-22-2018.

Scroll Saw SIG - Oct 18, 2018

The special interest group (SIG) focusing on Scroll Sawing is held at Rick Weisbeck’s shop on the third Thursday of the month.  All members are welcome to attend these “scroll saw focused” get-togethers.

For tonight’s meeting (10-18-2018), Rick made a rubber band pistol using patterns from the SCROLL SAW WORKSHOP web pages.  Our mission at the meeting was to figure out how to make it work.  Guest Keith Hoffman, a friend of Rollie’s, was the first to make it work.  Rick had made several pattern kits, complete with wood, so our Homework was passed out:  cut out the pistol, glue it up, and bring it back working.

Other SS SIG customary scroll-saw related talk was also entertained.

Attendees included Ken, Rollie, Rick, Keith, Bob and Kathie.

Community Event - Knecht Home Center - Spearfish 10-23-2018

Attendees:
Lon and Vicky, Ken and Carol, Darwin and Laurie, Bob and Kathie, Rick W, Jerry H, Jerry N, Danny and Mary, Carl, and Grant.

On Saturday Oct 13, 2018, members of the RCWA, accompanied Rick Weisbeck to the Knecht Home Center in Spearfish, SD to help celebrate the grand re-opening of the brand new store!  The store had food demonstrations on the Green Egg, plus hot dogs and fresh cookies baked in their full operational kitchen displays.  Kids also had the chance to paint pumpkins in a section near our setup.

We brought wood vans for kids to color, add wheels and race!  We set up at 9:30 am and entertained kids until 3 pm.  Over 80 vans were colored and fitted with wheels, and most were tested on our 8 foot 3 lane race track.  It snowed all day (outside) while we were warm and dry inside.  So at 3 pm, we tore down our booth, and drove home thru the snow.
