We held our sixth Toy Workshop (TWS) for 2023 on Saturday March 25, 2023, from 9 am to 12.  This was held at the Wood Shop at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City.  The shop is in the basement of the annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.  This was a regularly scheduled Rapid City Woodworkers Association (RCWA) workshop and held on the fourth Saturday of the month.

Attendees:  The attendees at today's workshop (17) included Harley, Keith, Rick, Grant, Ken, Rollie, Lon, Darwin, Lauree, Al, Ed, Jerry, Patsy, Mary Jo, Nick, Stu and Maggie Brown.

Today's Activities:

We finished tracing the critters for 2023 today.  Tracers today were Grant, Harley, Mary Jo, Patsy, Nick and Keith.

Other activities today including drilling windows (Ken), drilling holes for axle pegs (Rick), and cutting some toys to shape using scrollsaws (Jerry, Ed, Rollie, and Darwin).  Activities outside included cutting toys to shape on the bandsaw (Lon and Stu) and sanding toys with the Rigid sander (Al).

As a result of all previous activities with cutting and drilling, we have a good backlog of  rough sanding, routering of edges, and finish sanding with mouse sanders to do.

Today Maggie delivered Toys for the Black Hills Chaplains today - these were packed back on Dec 3, 2022.

--------------------------------------

Meanwhile on the west coast:  Names were cut, bunk beds assembled, and bookshelves cut and assembled over the past month with shop assistance from my helpful young grand-daughter.

Kathie painted two bookshelves for the grandkids today - chalkboard black.  These were made completely from scratch using recycled materials from box springs, and particle board from freestanding shed shelves.

Bob and Kathie met friends for breakfast in Yorba Linda, CA today.

SS SIG 3.16.2023

Members of the RCWA met at Rick's shop today at 1 pm to learn more about the art of scroll sawing.

Members attending today (9) included Alan Harper, Ken, and Rick. and others.

Rick completed the barn structure, adding the trim and painting the barn.  This is the Barn project for the silent auction at our April 22, 2023 Woodworking Show.  In October, we found wood and glued up patterns for the hay wagon and the tractor, as well as the horse, cow, and pig.  Wheels and steering wheels were selected as well.  The barn structure fit was refined and the animals and wagon were cut to size.  So now the barn is completely assembled and painted - ready for the show.

March 2023 General Meeting 3.13.2023

General Meeting was Monday nite at 7 pm.

Members (18) attending tonight's meeting included:   Keith, Ken, Grant, Mary C, Jerry, Patsy, Norma, Rollie, Harley, Nick, Alan Harper, Darwin, Lauree, Al, Rick, Tony, Stu, Lon. Total of 18 people.

Mary Coffin picked up the posters from Basler's Printing today and divided up the places where she had previously placed posters and came up with 7 "routes."   She brought them to the meeting tonight, and 5 people took home packets to help out.  Mary left the master plan of the routes with Rick.  Mary brought all that Gary had printed, so will need at least 12 more  printed.  These would be for locations in  Black Hawk, Piedmont, Sturgis and HIll City. À

Rick conducted the meeting and we were all out the door at 8 tonight.  The weather is improving for a couple of days, much to our relief after so much snow on the ground.   (Notes from Mary Coffin.)

Remember to save the date:  our 15th Annual Woodworking show is April 22nd, 2023 at the Knecht Home Center in Rapid City, SD from 9 am to 4 pm.
