TOY PROGRAM UPDATE

OCT 19, 2020

Our Toy Program is still active as members bring toys to and from my shop.  Activity since September 8, 2020 is noted below.

Sept 8, 2020:  Work on necklaces. 58 added.

Sept 9, 2020:  Prepared for mini-tugboat workshop.  Setup jigs.  Clear work areas. Routered edges of cabins (136).  Work on necklaces.

Sept 10, 2020:  Mini-Tugboat workshop.  Build tugboats.  (Lon, Rick, Ken, Paul, Al, Jerry, Patsy, Kathie, Bob)

Bag and tag blocks, heart boxes, ring toss games, and paddle games.

Install screws in Hoop/backboard sub-assemblies.  Make more necklaces (23).

Transfer chairs (30) from Jerry's truck to my truck for meeting room in town.

Add to inventory today:

Sept 11, 2020:  Put necklaces in bags and then in heart boxes.  Bag and tag, save for 2021 (28 heart boxes).

Drop off chairs to Annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church for meetings.

Sept 12, 2020:  Frank dropped off two boxes of toys ready to be sealed.  Take tables (3) to Annex for meeting.  Make signs for meeting area.

Sept 13, 2020:  Prepare for general meeting:  Sign-in, Meeting Agenda, Signs, Poster, WW Show Agenda

Sept 14, 2020:  General meeting today at 7 pm at annex.  

Paul brought toys ready for inventory (4 boxes).  Bel returned 4 boxes of toys ready to be finished + box of launchers (hand-sanded).

Sept 15, 2020:  General meeting today at 7 pm at annex. 

Sept 16, 2020:  Prep for WW Show - update WW SHOW notes - test printer for Names cutting.  Seal/finish jewelry boxes for WW Show.  Setup link to rapidcitywoodworkers.com via dnsexit.com. 

Sept 17, 2020:  Sent email to notify members.  New easier way to find our website:  www.rapidcitywoodworkers.com. 

Sept 18, 2020:  Tony picked up patterns for tracing cars for WW Show bandsaw demonstration for Rollie.  Racers (-100) and McQueen Racers - two sizes.

Sept 19, 2020:  Prep for BB Games - post installation.

Sept 20, 2020:  Make pattern for banner RCWA Truck.  Add new members to sign-in sheet. 

Sept 22, 2020:  Cut parts for BB games:  cut posts, cut slots, round-over one end.  Kathie finished sanding all cradles.  Cut out parts for Truck on Banner.  Plan display rack for airplanes at WW show.

Sept 23, 2020:  Basketball Games:  Jerry and Bob - cut wedges to size, install posts to bases, sand wedges flush (130 games)

Patsy and Kathie:  cutout Truck for banner, layout banner lettering, attach letters to fabric.

Sept 24, 2020:  Prep for WW Show:  update brochure, markup/update reporter’s notebook.

Request toy request updates from toy recipients (emails).  

Sept 26, 2020:  Pickup tablecloths from Danny.  Wash tablecloths.

Sept 27, 2020:  Build airplanes (8) for WW Show display.  

Sept 28, 2020:  John Wolf brought box of critters - ready to go. 

Sept 29, 2020:  Put finish on Airplanes, cradles, jewelry boxes (poly-rub - three coats).  Build Heirloom airplane, put grommets in banner, make kit for SS Name cutting, make kit for Toymaking Demo.  

Sept 20, 2020:  Add hooks to PVC Frame for BUILD A TOY sign.  

Sept 30, 2020:  Help Ken and Danny load trailer for WW Show items.  Make "Flying Toy Museum" sign for WW Show display, cutout on SS.  Pickup Reporter's Notebooks from Gary Graves at Basler's.  Internet is down.  

Oct 1, 2020:  Grocery shopping for WW Show.  Checkout laptop for Names Cutting.  Jim Burk picked up Flash Drive with Pictures for the WW Show.  

Oct 2, 2020:  Build box lunches (Mary Jo, Carol, Patsy, Mary C). 

Ken, Jerry, Bob:  Build 26 helos with rotors (now ready for inventory), install hoops to bases (120).

Setup for WW Shop at 4 pm at Knecht Home Center.  

Oct 3, 2020:  12th Annual RCWA Woodworking Show - 8 am to 4 pm

Rollie cut toys during the show on his bandsaw - Tony took the toys home to continue working.

Oct 4, 2020:  Unloaded trailer at Danny's (Rick, Ken, Bob, Danny).  Put all WW Show items back on the shelves in the RV Barn.

Toys to inventory:  Helos 1017-101  qty 27.

Transferred two boxes of toys from Ed to Rick for routering/sanding.  

Oct 5, 2020:  No internet.  Called CenturyLink - they will send new router - overnight.  They cannot enter the home and install, however. 

Oct 6, 2020:  Received new router:  installed new router, wireless works better, ethernet still not working.  Order new network switch (16 port).

Oct 7-10, 2020: Kathie sanded rockers (32). Sprayed toys: Cradles, Basketball Games, Tugboats, Rockers, ducks, wings, tow trucks. Paul picked up several toys to install wheels (80).

Oct 11, 2020: Do agenda for Monday's general meeting. Write and post the newsletter, then email about the meeting.

Oct 12, 2020: General Meeting at 7 pm in the annex.

Toy Program exchanges at the meeting/Toys for inventory:

Tugboats (108) to Rick

Jewelry boxes to Darwin and Lauree for Felt

Received strings and wood balls from Al for BB Games

Transferred ducks to Jerry to install wheels and wings


Oct 13, 2020: Toys for inventory: Cradles (24), Rockers (32), Cup and Ball Games (25) - picked up by Rick. Rick took two tubs of Table Cloths back to RV Barn. Kathie sealed toys (65).

Oct 14, 2020:

1. Trip to CFB store room. Found 5 boxes: 1009-104 Locomotives (80), Long Firetrucks 1007-121 (already cut) (28), Love Bugs 1016-101 (20), Helos 1007-100 (23), and tugboat hulls (50)

2. Talked to Mark Kline about using the kitchen for Toy Packing on Dec 5th. Yes, we can use it. He showed me the spraying tool to use to disinfect after the event.

3. Brought box of toys to Bell for hand sanding.

4. Received new network switch - installed - Internet is working.

Oct 15-16, 2020:

Oct 17, 2020: Put strings into wooden balls (100) while watching baseball playoffs.

Oct 18, 2020: Update list of toy recipients with latest phone numbers, email addresses, personnel, and toy request totals.

Update Toy Status list - troubleshoot spread sheet for missing completed toys.

Oct 19, 2020: Write Blog entry summarizing the Toy Program activity from Sept 8 to date.

Oct 2020 RCWA General Meeting 10-12-2020

The October meeting of the RCWA was held on Oct 12, 2020 at 7 pm in the annex to the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City, SD. Eighteen members were in attendance.

12th Annual Woodworking Show of the Rapid City Woodworkers 10-3-2020

 The Knecht Home Center of Rapid City hosted the 12th Annual Woodworking Show of the Rapid City Woodworkers Association on Saturday Oct 3, 2020, from 9 am thru 4 pm.  Demonstrations of woodworking activities and displays of handmade wooden projects highlighted the day!
