Pinewood Derby Assistance with the Club for Boys - July 20 - 29, 2016

Several members of the Rapid City Woodworkers spent time at the Club for Boys during the week of July 18th, assisting with the building of the race cars for the Pinewood Derby.  During the first week, over 87 boys had started building their cars.  The Derby will be held on Thursday and Friday July 28th and 29th.  Trophies will be awarded to winners in several categories and classes.

During the first half of 2016, RCWA members cut out more than 200 cars from 2x4 blanks in preparation for this very popular event.  There are four styles to choose from, with the BATMAN car being the most popular.  Other styles included three different race cars.  During July, Danny Green cut out 1,080 wheels using a 2 1/4" holesaw.  Axles are made from 1/4" dowels x 2 3/4" long, and were cut by members during the building process.

Assisting this year during the first week was Jerry Hood, Al Oines, Ron Fisher, Lon Gose, Bob Buchanan, and Kathie Buchanan.
