Toy Workshop 6-29-2019 (TWS 2019-10)

Toy Workshop:  June 29th, 2019 from 9 to noon at CFB
Temperature at game time:  80 degrees F, sunny, windy

Attendees (20):  Lon, Danny and Mary, Jim, Ken, Ed, Gloria, Harley, Bel, Paul, Julian, Rollie, Mary Jo, Kathie and Bob, Frank, Rick, Ralph, Gary G, and Grant.

Activities today:

     Hand Sanding after sealing:  Helicopters, Racers, and Tater cars:  Gloria, Kathie, Mary Jo
     Installing wheels/pegs on Love Bug Project toys:
           Harley, Mary G, Ralph, Bel
     Sanding with Rigid sander/Routering:  Jim, Ken, Danny, Grant,
     Sanding with 1" belt sander:  Jim
     Band-sawing toys to shape:  Rollie
     Scroll-sawing toys to shape:  Ed, Rick, Danny
   
Results today:

     Toys completed, packed and send to inventory:  169
          Rick transported the completed toys to Store Room.
     Total Toys in inventory to date:  432
   
Gary Graves brought in two boxes of toys, ready for finish.  Lon took home a box of blanks to work.  Frank returned thin firetrucks ready for inventory.  Jerry returned thick firetrucks at SS SIG last Thursday, ready for inventory.

Mary Jo, Gloria and Kathie hand sanding the raised grain after the toys were sealed with Shellac.

Julian, Paul and Frank drilled holes for windows and axle holes.

Paul drilling windows in toys using a 3/4" Forstner bit.

Sanding Line 

Ken easing/shaping the edges of toys with a 3/16" round-over bit.

Grant sanding love bugs.

This is only the second workshop of the year that we were able to work outside using routers and sanders.

Ed - cutting toys to shape on the scroll saw using #9 blade on 2" stock.

Love Bugs completed today:  103

Suggested new design of Love Bug to facilitate easier sanding of nose area.  New plan will replace all existing Love Bug plans circulating around the group.  New rev will be announced, and plan distributed.

Rollie - doing a through cleaning of the bandsaw.

Shop Tour - Lon's Shop - 6-26-2019

 Shop Tour - Wednesday June 26, 2019 - Lon Gose's Shop - at 8275 Mt. Palomar Ln, Rapid City, SD - 10 am to Noon.

Attending:
Lon and Vicky, Rick, Al, Danny and Mary, Bob, Matt, Ken, Jerry H, Jerry N, Rich, and Grant.

Vicky served a feast to all after the tour - thank you Vicky and Lon for sharing your home and shop with us!

Kenadi's Karnival - 4th Annual Fundraiser - Spearfish, SD 6-22-2019

Quick Note:  We will be at Kenadi's Karnival at Spearfish High School tomorrow - please be there at 9 am to set up.  Bring your own chairs.  Karnival runs from 10 am to 4 pm.  Bob B

Attendees (14):  Danny and Mary Green, Bob and Kathie Buchanan, Darwin and Lauree Buus, Rick Weisbeck, Ed Pike and Gloria Pike, Lon Gose, Jerry Hood, Harley Schmadeke, Ken and Carol Maron.

We brought blank unfinished wooden toy vans  - aka Give Away Vans (GAVs)/aka UPS Vans - for kids to color with crayons. When the kids finished coloring, we installed four wheels on each toy.  Our 3 Lane Race Track was available to test cars and provide racing entertainment.  Fourteen members participated and over 250 vans were given out to kids at the event.
