JUNE 1: Shop Tour and Turning Demonstration - June 1st, 2019 at 10 am at Larry Kellogg's in Spearfish

Shop Tour - Larry and Druce Kelloggs - Spearfish SD held on June 1, 2019

On June 1st, 2019, several members journeyed to the Northern Hills city of Spearfish to tour Larry Kellogg’s shop on Maitland Road. Those attending included Harley, Eric Lie, Al, Richard, Ken, Bob and Kathie, Lon, Larry and Druce Kellogg, Rollie, Keith, and Danny, and other guests from the Spearfish group.

Larry Kellogg gave the tour with explanations of several turned items shown on a table in the middle of the shop as well as detailed briefings on how he uses each of his three lathes. Show and Tell items included baseball bat pens, bottle stoppers, bowls, handcrafted lathe tool handles, handmade lathe chisels, miniature bird houses, wood pens, and coin pendants.  Eric Lie from the Spearfish group brought several items to share that including a quilt pattern stool.  This was a beautiful display of how wood grains can be used to show depth in a piece of woodworking art.  It was a beautiful day in the hills for a shop tour, after a long wet winter.  Less than two weeks ago, we were all shoveling a foot and half of heavy wet snow.  Afterwards, a debriefing was held at Perkins in Spearfish.
