MOVE COMPLETED 9-28-2013

PREPARATION

The Rapid City Woodworkers Association moved its toymaking shop from its current location in the basement of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 910 Wood Avenue in Rapid City, SD.  Packing sessions were held during the past week in prepartion for this event.

Loose wood was wrapped with plastic or put in boxes in preparation for the move.

Workbenches were removed from the main shop last week during the Shelving Workshop.  The remaining jigs, tools, and supplies were packaged on Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

The wood storage area was prepared for the move on Tuesday and Thursday.

Boxes provided by Rollie made the move a lot easier

THE MOVE

Fifteen members arrived early on Saturday Sept 28, 2013 and loaded tools, furniture, and wood supplies into trailers and trucks. The items will be stored in a pole barn west of town.  Members participating included Frank, Darwin, Lauree, Grant, Larry, Lon, Steve, Rick, Harley, Wes, Julian, Greg, Gary, Kathie and Bob.
Lon, Steve, Rick, and Grant brought trailers, and Larry brought his one ton truck.

The new storage area is ready!

First load...

... is unloaded.

An hour and a half later, everything is unloaded and relocated...
Amazing, but it all pretty much fit in!

A very successful move - a great big thanks to all the helpers - one hour to load - a half hour travel - one and one half hour to unload!  Lunch was shared at Bob and Kathie's at noon.

NOTICE
We will continue to hold general meetings in the fellowship hall of the church.  RCWA toymaking activities will be held at member shops until further notice.

Shelving Workshop - Wednesday Sept 18, 2013

In preparation for relocating our RCWA shop and for moving our wood supply to a remote pole barn, we worked Wednesday 9-18-2013 in the RCWA Shop.  Our mission was to disassemble the workbenches, evaluate what could be salvaged, build 3 shelving units (2' x 4' x 77"), and deliver them to the remote pole barn.

Members Lon Gose, Julian Wigen, Larry Borg, Harley Schmadeke, and Bob Buchanan were there at 9 am to do the job.  We disassembled three workbenches, loaded the material onto Larry's one ton truck, met Rick at Knecht Home Center for more material, and then journeyed to Lon's Shop for the building task.   Vicky Gose served up snacks and drinks in the middle of the 90 degree afternoon.  By 4 pm, the three shelves were built and loaded into Larry's one ton.  By 7 pm they were sitting in the remote pole barn ready for wood.  Bob put together a fourth shelf from auction treasures and dropped it off on Thursday evening.  Good Job Shelving TEAM!
