Storage Move Day and Danny Green's Shop Tour

Subject: Moving Day/Shop Tour - Saturday March 19th

Reminder - we will be moving our wood supply etc from the Pole Barn to the RV Barn on Saturday morning.  Meet at the Pole Barn at 9 am, then we will make a convoy to the RV Barn via Norris Peak Road.  After unloading at the RV Barn, we will have a shop tour of Danny and Mary's shops, along with a lunch provided by Mary Green and Kathie Buchanan.  It should be a good day - if you are unable to help with the moving, come to the shop tour anyways.  We will be eating around noon at Danny and Mary Green's home.  Maps (revised) to both places are attached.  Hope to see you there!   Bob B

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Assisting with today's move were: Al Oines, Julian Wigen, Bob and Kathie Buchanan, Grant Coffin, Steve Larson, Rick Weisbeck, Lon Gose, Paul Douglas, Jerry Hood, Darwin and Lauree Buus, Ed Pike, and Danny and Mary Green.

Just a little snow this morning - hopefully not enough to cause driving challenges...

FAREWELL TO THE POLE BARN - THANK YOU MARY JO FOR STORING OUR WOOD FOR THE LAST TWO AND A HALF YEARS!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The road to the RV Barn via Norris Peak Road challenged our driving abilities.  Roads had not been plowed or sanded, as the storm took the weatherman and the DOT by surprise.  Also, the roads only had at most two inches of snow.  Everybody made it up the steep hill and sharp curves except my lightly loaded two wheel drive truck.  We made it about 2/3 of the way up the hill, but lost traction, and had to back down the hill through the 15 mph curves, etc.  Grant was pulling a trailer, and we mistakenly left the truck fairly lightly loaded, so he made it up the hill very slowly, on a wing and a prayer.

UPDATE ABOUT NORRIS PEAK ROAD:  Read the story in the Rapid City Journal (4-23-2016):

So when the caravan got to the steep hill after the turnoff to Schroeder Road, Darwin hitched up Grant's trailer to his vehicle.  The hill from Nemo Road to the RV Barn was slick, but drivable, that is, until Darwin encountered a USPS mail driver spun out and sitting broadside in the middle of the road.  He had to stop to avoid hitting the mail driver, so starting up from a standstill on a slippery hill pulling a trailer, was very difficult.  Lots of swerving and spinning later, Darwin made it up the hill with the trailer.  Many people said this was the slickest roads they had encountered in a long time, but mainly because they usually avoid these kinds of roads by staying home!  But in the end, all personnel arrived safely and the storage items were moved successfully to the RV Barn.

A great big thanks to all the helpers - one hour to load - awhile to travel - and a short time to setup the shelving and unload!  After unloading, we were treated to a shop tour of Danny and Mary's shops.  A very delicious lunch (feast) was provided by Mary Green and Kathie Buchanan at noon.

Welcome to the RV Barn

SHOP TOUR

Lathe review...

A great use for spare coffee cans!

The latest addition to the shop is a Spray Booth - fits nicely against the wall but folds outs whe when needed.

Opened up and ready for use - exhaust fan is the next item to install.

A very useful part of any shop - cutoff storage.

Pre-Move Packing at Pole Barn 3-16-2016

Danny Green, Jerry Hood, Al Oines and Bob Buchanan met at the pole barn this morning to pack loose items in preparation for the move to the Greens RV Barn on Saturday morning.  Wood was packed into boxes, and labeled for easy identification at the new location.  Danny measured the wood shelving and came to the conclusion that the shelving will easily fit on his flatbed truck for moving.

The move will take place on Saturday morning March 19th - meet at the pole barn at 9 am.  Bring your gloves, truck and/or trailers.  Lunch will be served at the Green's cabin after the move by Mary Green and Kathie Buchanan.  Shop Tours will be conducted at the Green's as well.  Plan to attend for a fun and productive time.
