Woodworking Show Press Release – April 22, 2023

Dateline:  Rapid City, SD

The Rapid City Woodworkers Association (RCWA) will be sharing their skills and showing finished art products during their 15th annual Woodworking Show.  It will be held Saturday April 22, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Knecht Home Center at 320 West Boulevard in Rapid City.  The event is free to the public, with special emphasis on those who are interested in learning about woodworking and the organization.

The show will feature displays of fine woodworking projects by individual members.  The theme for this fifteenth annual show is “Down on the Farm”.  A club table will be set up for items which reflect the theme of the show.  Another area will highlight a collection of Old Tools, with another area set up especially for kids, featuring marble games, kangaroo/rabbit races, wooden basketball games, giant and medium JENGA games, and a Love Bug/Tractor race track.  There will also be live demonstrations of woodturning, scroll sawing, toy-making, a rubber band gattling gun, and a computer-controlled router.

Visitors can sign up for free door prizes consisting of handcrafted wooden items made by members, and a free monthly newsletter.  A fundraiser will offer raffle tickets to win handcrafted items, or you may participate in a silent auction of handcrafted wooden items.  Proceeds will be used to buy supplies for the RCWA’s Toy Making Program for less fortunate children in the Black Hills.

Woodworking demonstrations will highlight several projects.  There will be explanations of how to make wooden toys using common tools, wooden bowls and wooden pens on a woodturning lathe, and how to use a computer and a scroll saw to make wooden name signs, plus bowls and vases.  Interested children can have their own names cut from wood to take home.  Children will be encouraged to color their own Tractor, and then race it on our track.  Love Bugs will be available for the younger children.  Members of the RCWA will be available to share advice as well as swap techniques and project ideas with those attending the show.

The event will be held at 320 West Boulevard near the intersection of Omaha and West Boulevard.  Specials on tools and supplies for woodworking will be featured throughout the Knecht Home Center during the show.  Additional information can be obtained from RCWA President Bob Buchanan at 348-2865 or Rick Weisbeck at 431-4708.  Photos of the group’s activities can be seen on the RCWA Blog at:
