RCWA September 2020 - Update

It’s almost winter according to the view out my windows, but its really only September 8, 2020.  I want to let you know what is being planned for the next few weeks.

We have a date reserved for our Woodworking Show at Knecht Home Center:  it is Saturday Oct 3, 2020.  When we last met as a group on March 9, 2020, we were about a month away from our 12th Annual woodworking show.  We had planned the entire show and were ready to do it.  As you know, it was delayed.  So on September 14, 2020, which is the second Monday evening of September 2020, we will meet to update the plans for our 12th annual woodworking show on Oct 3, 2020.  We will have to do the show a little different than originally planned, and this is what we will discuss next Monday evening.

The meeting place will also be somewhat different.  We will meet at the school attached to the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.  This is the building on the south end of the church.  The BH Lutheran school closed down in mid-2019.  We had our Christmas Potluck in the basement of the school one year, and we held our Toy Workshops in the basement of the school several years ago.  Enter the building upstairs thru the double doors on the west side of the building.  Please wear masks, and we will bring the badges so we can tell who we are, as it has been almost 6 months since we last met.  We have been given a large room in the NE corner of the top floor.  Jerry Hood is bringing chairs donated by the Nemo Fire Department and Joan Bares decorated the room with brand new curtains.  We will have a couple of tables for note-takers and for show and tell, and we are allowed to bring the coffee maker and refreshments.  You may want to bring your own chairs in your cars, just in case we run short, at least for this first time.

So that is the plan.  We will setup for the show on Friday Oct 2, at 4 pm, as we have in previous shows.  The show will start at 9 am on Saturday Oct 3.  Please bring your ideas and concerns to the meeting on Monday Sept 14, 2020 and help us make the final plans for the show (again).  Also let me know if you cannot attend the show, so we can plan accordingly.  Thanks and hope to see you next week.

RCWA - Update for August 2020

Hope all are well and enjoying the summer from your back yards and shops!

Just an update - we are still processing toys and packing them for inventory.  We have tried to assess where we are, and currently need all who have toys in work to report in with the status of their individual toys.  We are looking for status updates on several items, such as Locomotives, Cradles, Jewelry Boxes, and Cup and Ball Games, just to name a few.  If you need any parts to complete your toys, please let us know.   So please send me any updates on these and any toys you may still be working on.  Thanks in advance.

Paul Douglas just finished putting wheels on 301 toys;  about 175 toys are currently being hand-sanded before we will apply the final finish and add wheels.  Ken and Bob are working on all the various parts of the basketball games.  Rick is working tractors and rockers.

As far as plans for August, it still remains to be seen.  August is typically a non-meeting month, and as the Rally is about to begin, we have not scheduled anything formally.  The Club for Boys for workshops is still on hold, as well as our attendance at  community events.  We have been cleared to meet at the School south of the Our Redeemer Lutheran Church whenever we are ready.  We will see what changes or doesn't change after the Rally is over.  Please send me feedback concerning your individual situations about availability for events such as the woodworking show and group picnics.

We will be sending out letters to Toy Recipients in September to see what has changed in the number of Christmas Toy requests.  We currently have about 1100 toys in inventory + 400 toys from last year.  We have about 550 toys in-work that do not use wheels.  These numbers will change quickly in the next few weeks, as many toys are getting closer to completion.

Toy Program Update - 7-20-2020

As you may have already guessed:  July 2020 Events are cancelled until further notice:  All events planned for July 2020 for RCWA are cancelled until further notice.  Updates will be announced if they occur.

----------------------------------

We have been given a key to the building adjacent and south of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.  This is the former location of the Black Hills Lutheran School, which closed its doors in June of 2019.  We can meet there on our regularly scheduled meeting nights if we so choose.

We are discussing the subject of using the Club for Boys for our workshops with Mark Kline.  The Club opened its doors to a limited number of boys on July 6, 2020.  This will continue until August 13th, when the boys go back to school in whatever form it will be.  After that time, we will be continuing our discussions with Mark about what changes will need to be made to be able to use the Club for Boys to do our Toy Workshops.

We are discussing the possibility of a RCWA Picnic in the end of August.  We are also discussing with Knecht Managers the possibility of holding our Annual Woodworking Show and have tentatively set September 26, 2020 or October 3, 2020 as the show dates.  So pull out those "Things That Fly" and get them finished up, if you haven't done so already.  We will keep you posted as the date is finalized.
