These toys will need a little handsanding before the spray finish as the sealer almost always raises the grain.

Mill and Sand cedar Tugboat Hulls (42)

The material used for most of these hulls was recycled cedar fencing.  Some of it required extensive sanding or using a joiner to get a smooth surface.  A large number of hulls were rescued from the fireplace using the joiner in combination with a belt sander.

What we got done:

All toys needing hand sanding after being sealed were sanded and are now ready to be finish sprayed.  That is about ten boxes of toys.  Tugboats (79) will be sanded next week.

The wheel guys finished 140 toys with wheels; Lauree recorded, packed, and physically put them into inventory.   This included 53 helicopters and 87 Love Bugs.

The power sanders/routers finished about ten boxes that are now ready to be sealed with shellac.  This process always raises the grain, so next week we can expect to have another ten boxes to hand-sand.

It was determined that the cedar fencing used for tugboat hulls was almost unsandable, so 30 more tugboat hulls were traced using some recently acquired pine 1x4s.  Russ and Grant are working to make the final 30 tugboats for 2023 toy giving.

Today Jim Brown and Rollie completed about half the Ring Toss games for this year.  They will begin making ball/strings for basketball games next week.

Jerry installed Tanks on pickup bodies creating tanker trucks.  He also installed tanks on tanker bodies made specifically for tankers to create a new toy called Tanker Trucks.

Jerry took home road graders and trucks to make the rest of the parts.

Bob drilled holes for crayons in Crayon Whales this week.  Today, Darwin cut the whales to shape.  Ken took the whales home to router the edges and eyes.  This is a sort of a milestone because it is the last toy that  needed to be cut to shape for 2023.  Most of the remaining effort is routering critters and other toys.  

Blocks were brought in today.  They will be prepared and bagged in the coming weeks.

Progress has been made on basketball games.  Bob made a run of  over 600 launchers this week.  Some more milling will be required.   Assembly of sub-assembllies will begin this week.

Today's Demo:  Inside Outside Turnings by Al Oines

Two handouts were given out explaining all the details of inside-outside turning.

Maggie and Stu also explained various details of the technique.
