Cart Surgery/Renovation/Repurposing 11-18-2021

Memo:  If you are available, come over to the Shop on Wood Ave tomorrow afternoon.  We will do a bag filling tomorrow (Thursday) starting about 1 pm at the Shop on Wood Ave.  Also, there will probably be time to do some surgery on one or more of the carts in the outer room.  Bring appropriate tools - rivet removers, sockets, wrenches, etc.   Hope to see you there.  Bob and Kathie

It was an opportunity to renovate the seven carts purchased from the school auction last month, so Rick, Grant, Ken, Ron, Lon and Bob met at the WOOD Shop on Thursday afternoon Nov. 18, 2021 for that purpose.

It took about a half hour to disassemble, remove extra parts, and reassemble the first cart.  It took just over an hour to do the next 6 carts.  Grant's handcrafted rivet remover and a hammer were very instrumental in finishing this job.  Metal shelves and center supports were recycled.  Some parts will be used for tool shelves, tool hangers and workbench plugs.

Four of the carts have a black electronics box in the bottom of the cart.  Later, under the last shelf in the last cart, we found an operator's manual.  The black box is a switch controlled by a timer, that switches power from one bank of plugs to the other bank of plugs as set by the timer on the black box.  This will probably need to be bypassed for our purposes of using the cart with power tools on demand.

On November 27, 2021, we added a few wood tops (3) that we cut from a 4' x 8'  sheet of 3/4" particle board donated by Ralph Brethauer:
