The Rapid City Woodworkers Association (RCWA) will be sharing their skills
and showing finished art products during their fifth annual Woodworking Show.
It will be held Saturday May 11, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Knecht Home
Center. The event is free to the public, and those interested in joining the
organization are particularly welcomed.
The show will feature displays of fine woodworking projects by individual
members. There will also be live demonstrations of woodturning, scroll sawing, toy-making,
and use of hand tools. Visitors to the show can also register for a monthly
club newsletter and various door prizes of donated wooden items hand-made by
members. A raffle will be held for several select wooden items. Proceeds will
be used to buy supplies for the RCWA’s Toy Making Program for less fortunate children
in the Black Hills.
Woodworking demonstrations will include several projects. These will explain how
to make wooden toys and boxes, turning bowls and pens on a lathe, and using a
scroll saw for name signs or clock parts. Interested children can have their
individual names cut from wood and take them home. Visitors are also welcomed
to help sand toy parts. Members of the RCWA will be available to share advice
as well as swap ideas for techniques and projects from those attending the
show.
The event will be held at 320 West Boulevard near the intersection of Omaha and
West Boulevard. Specials on tools and supplies for woodworking will be featured
throughout the Knecht Home Center as well. Additional information can be
obtained from RCWA President Bob Buchanan at 348-2865 or Rick Weisbeck at
431-7375. Photos of the group’s
activities can be seen at www.sdwoodworker.org.
