Toy Workshop (TWS2022-22) 11.5.2022

We held our 22nd Toy Workshop (TWS) for 2022 on Saturday November 5, 2022, from 9 to noon.  This was held at the Wood Shop at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City.  The shop is in the basement of the annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The attendees at today's workshop (25) included Harley, John, Bob, Jerry, Patsy, Stu, Rick, Grant, Mary Jo, Nick, Julian, Rollie, Lon, Norma, Jim Brown, Jim Burk, Ken, Russ, Paul,  Al, Lauree, Darwin, Gary G, Dennis, and Don.

Here was the plan for the day:  TASKS FOR TOY WORKSHOP  11.5.2022

Today Darwin drilled 3/4" holes 1" deep in smoke stack blanks used on tugboats.  This was to finish up a few tugboats for 2022 and prepare for 2023 tugboats.

Patsy, Mary Jo, Norma, and Don hand sanded several toys  that had been sprayed with shellac and some that has been sprayed with clear polyurethane.   They also sanded the jewelry boxes and tops built by Julian last week.  They also bagged the cup and ball games ready for inventory.

Patsy and Jerry provided coffee and cookies today!

Patsy worked on prepping the ball and strings for the paddle games the past week at home. She will be tieing the strings to the paddle this week again at home, and putting them in 1 gallon ziplock bags for inventory.  She will also be cutting strings for the basketball games as well.

Harley, John, Julian, and Lon installed wheels and ears on toys today.  There were 272 toys packed and moved to inventory today (same number as last week!)

Nick built a few more small tanker trucks today. The wheels had been installed a few months ago.  The tanker part will need to be sealed before packing for inventory.

Jerry and Jim worked on basketball games - they finished installing posts in about 20 bases with the tiny wedges.  Then they installed hoop/backboard sub assemblies to the posts (61).  Then they worked on back boards - drilling the holes for the 2 screws that will secure the hoops.  They used a counter sink bit for #6 screws.  Then they used a 5/32" drill bit to enlarge the holes.

Al brought in two boxes of toys made by our Off-site Worker (OSW) Keith Brink.  After final spraying, they will be added to the inventory.  Thanks Keith!

Outside today, there was power sanding and round-over routering in 59 degree weather.  Some boxes of toys and lots of blocks were worked on today.  Ken, Russ, Rollie, Rick, Jim Burk and Stu made up the parking lot crew.

Rollie packed Heart necklaces into the single and double Heart boxes (25 each) and moved them into inventory.

Gary Graves brought in more basketball games bases that survived ICU, along with a few surviving wheeled toys. He also picked up a few toys for ICU.

Grant worked on an equipment improvement project today.  He installed a router into a table donated by Kathleen Hastings earlier this summer.

Paul Douglas painted another bag of pegs (1,000) orange this week and brought them to the workshop.  He also brought in his pegboard pieces he uses to hold the pegs for spraying to show us how he sprays the pegs.

Rick finished all the parts for the rocking chairs (40) this week.  He brought them in to the workshop for final finishing of parts  before assembly.
