Members of the Rapid City Woodworkers Association have been preparing for this year's Tool Sale to benefit the Toy Program, for at least two months.
Mary Coffin spent the last few weeks posting Tool Sale posters around the Black Hills in places wood workers frequent. Mary placed ads on TV, in Quick Quarters, etc. Cori W placed ads on Instagram, Facebook, Craig's List, etc. Members had been collecting tools and other items to sell at the tool sale, tagging and marking them for a few weeks.
On Wednesday, Al, Rick and Bob went to a home above Canyon Lake to load items donated to the RCWA for the tool sale. On Wednesday, several members dropped off items at Wes and Kathy Murphy's garage in preparation for the Tool Sale. On Friday afternoon, Al, Rick and Bob met to mark and tag all the donated items for the Saturday Tool Sale. Tony and Cori prepared their worksheets to be able to easily record hundreds of transactions that happen at the Tool Sale.

Customers began arriving before 7:30 am. Most major sales were made before 9 am. There was a lull until 11 am but continued slower and steadily until 3 pm. Starting after 8:30 am, Keith conducted a survey asking customers how they heard about the Tool Sale. The largest response was "Saw Signs, driving by."
After the sale, Tony will add up all sales for each participant, subtracting the fee, and determine the amount due each participant. Preliminary numbers: Total net sales exceeded $1,900.00.

At the end of the Tool Sale, we had a few larger items left including two table saws, a lathe, and a small generator. I called RESTORE, an outlet store for the Black Hills area Habitat, and they said they could use these items. So, on Tuesday afternoon, Rick, Al, Stu, and Bob loaded the items into Stu's low trailer with a ramp and deliver them to Restore. Wes's garage is clear again.
