Toy Workshop (TWS2023-11) 6.24.2023

We held our eleventh Toy Workshop (TWS) for 2023 on a rainy day Saturday June 24, 2023, from 9 am to 12.  This was held at the Wood Shop at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City.  The shop is in the basement of the annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.  This was a regularly scheduled Rapid City Woodworkers Association (RCWA) workshop and held on the fourth Saturday of the month.

Today's Activities:

Activities today included cutting toys to shape using scrollsaws (Ed).  Ed cut tugboat hulls, and critters today.

Harley,  Nick, Lon, Al, and Ken put wheels on numerous toys (80).  This included golf carts, runabouts, and milk vans.

Kathie, Mary Jo, and Lon's granddaughter handsanded a large number of toys, moving them on to the spraying area at Bob's shop.

Lon returned a box of tugboat hulls all cut to shape, routered and sanded.

Ed returned the chalk boards (64) with all handles cut out.  Gary Graves picked up the chalk boards to work at home.  Pat Graves will add the chalkpaint, chalk and cutsies.

Julian completed building 38 jewelry boxes in his shop at West Hills. He returned them today for sealing, sanding and finishing.

Frank returned small cradles today (13), completely assembled and ready for sealing and finishing. He has completed 10 large cradles as well, still at home.  He will need 12 more pairs of small cradle ends for 2023.

Gary brought in a box of beautiful antique tops (17) completed by a friend in Colorado.  They were ready for inventory. Thank you!

Gary returned a box of racers that survived  ICU.  Gary enhanced each with the addition of a large manikin.  These are ready for sealing, sanding, and finishing.  Gary also picked up a few more toys from ICU for rework.

Due to the impending rain, activities outside were stopped about 10:00 am.   Ken, Al, and Lon had been routering and sanding the edges of toys until the dark clouds and thunder suggested we move back inside.

As a result of all previous activities with cutting and drilling, we still have a good backlog of  rough sanding, routering of edges, and finish sanding (with mouse sanders) left to do.   A few boxes of 2" toys + many boxes of critters need to be cut to shape.  There are several boxes of toys ready for finish spraying.

Attendees (13) included Lon, Lon's granddaughter, Al, Gary, Ed, Ken, Kathie, Bob, Nick, Harley, Mary Jo, Julian, and Frank,
