Toy Workshop 10-28-2017 (TWS2017-19)

Another cool Saturday morning, after all, it is the end of October.  Today was the final day of our Toy Making Marathon at our Toy Workshops at the shop at the Club for Boys.  There are a few toys still being worked at Rick's shop today, but our work at the larger workshop is done.  We finished a half dozen toys to complete the majority of the toys for 2017.  We also worked on Love Bugs, and some toys for next year.

Attendees (22):   Danny and Mary Green, Ken Maron and Rick Weisbeck (in  Rick's shop), Bob and Kathie Buchanan, Jerry Hood, Lauree and Darwin Buus,  Paul Douglas, Ralph Brethauer, Richard Rasmussen, Ed Pike, Rollie Lynde, Grant Coffin, Don Roberts, Al Oines, Lon Gose, Frank DiCesare, Bel Felix, Chris, and Tom L.

Activities:
During the past week the a large number of Love Bugs (140) were sanded, sealed, and final sprayed.  So today, Love Bugs, Crayon Whales, and a few miscellaneous toys that were recovered from Gary Grave's ICU exercises, were fitted with wheels and packed for inventory.  Fifteen toys were boxed up for inventory.  Love Bugs were also taken to Rick's, but were not counted in the inventory.

Rick's crew at his shop worked on Rocking Chairs and Turtle Banks.  48 Turtle banks were packed and moved to inventory.

Other activities today included preparation of toys for next year's Christmas giving, and included installing launchers on basketball game bases, and fitting a dozen trucks with tanks.

Also today in preparation for next year, wood donations from Jeremy Olson the drummer were brought to the workshop.  Patterns for truck cabs and trailers were traced onto 2x4 pine and 2x6 redwood.

The 1x6 pine retrieved from the Hill City Sawmill last summer was also brought to the workshop.  Patterns for the hulls of the tugboats were traced on the 1x6 pine.

Items traced today were cut down to individual blanks with Lon's miter saw, and packed in boxes.

In the maintenance department today, Grant and Rollie made a zero-clearance top for one of our router tables using Plexiglas to make it easier and safer to do end-grain routing of tanks for tanker trucks, and other tasks on small pieces with the router.

The Toymaking Workshop Marathon which began on Sept 9th, 2017, was held every Saturday morning from 9 to noon at the Shop at the Club for Boys.  As of Oct 28, 2017, we will no longer be holding scheduled workshops for 2017.  We have a small number of toys yet to build in home shops, but are very close to the end of our toymaking for 2017.

So, we will be packing and delivering toys on Saturday morning Dec 2, 2017 at 9 am for our Toy Program Christmas Giving.  Watch for further announcements and details.
