Toy Workshop (TWS2022-18) 10-8-2022

We held our 18th Toy Workshop (TWS) for 2022 on Saturday October 8, 2022, from 9 to noon.  This was held at the Wood Shop at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City.  The shop is in the basement of the annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The attendees at today's workshop (24) included Harley, Bob, Kathie, Jerry, Patsy, Stu, Rick, Grant, Mary Jo, Al, Jim Burk, Lon, Nick, Rollie, Norma, Shirley, Gary G, Dennis, Jim and Maggie, Julian, John, Ken, and Tony.

Today Jerry cut toys using a scroll saw, and Rollie cut dogs on the bandsaw. 

Patsy, Mary Jo, Norma and Shirley hand sanded 52 Turtle Banks  that had been sealed with shellac.  They now are ready for final spraying and installing plexiglass covers.

Six boxes of toys were sanded and are now ready for spraying.  Turtle banks (52) were completed at home and returned by Rick ready for hand sanding.  These were hand-sanded today and are now ready for sealing.  Additionally, Patsy returned sanded airplane wings.

Harley, John, Julian, Kathie, Mary Jo, Lon, Jim and Maggie Brown,  Patsy, Norma and Shirley installed wheels on 379 toys.

Lon drilled holes for rotor pegs on helicopters, then installed rotors on helicopters with black axles.  Lon and Jim Brown completed installation of rotors and wheels on more than 135 helicopters.

Nick and Rick began installing airplane wings to fuselages.  Jim and Maggie tag teamed to install wheels on the airplanes using shortened axle pegs.  Airplane building will continue next workshop.

Outside today, there was power sanding and round-over routering in 65 degree weather.  Many boxes were worked on,  moving them to the next operation.  Jim Burk, Grant, Al, Ken and Stu made up the parking lot crew.

Gary Graves returned a mixed box of toys that survived ICU, plus a box of healed (miracle) Basket ball bases.

Rick completed a group of small cradles and brought to the Workshop.  Kathie will sand them, and add dolls and quilts and package them up for inventory.

At the end of the day, there were 6 boxes of toys ready to be sealed with shellac, two boxes of small cradles to be hand sanded, and two boxes for rework.
