Toy Workshop (TWS2022-20) 10.22.2022

We held our 20th Toy Workshop (TWS) for 2022 on Saturday October 22, 2022, from 9 to noon.  This was held at the Wood Shop at 910 Wood Ave in Rapid City.  The shop is in the basement of the annex to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The attendees at today's workshop (22) included Harley, Bob, Kathie, Jerry, Patsy, Stu, Rick, Grant, Mary Jo, Nick, Rollie, Norma, Jim Brown, Maggie, Jim Burk, Ken, Russ, Lauree, Darwin, Gary G, Dennis, and Don.

Today Darwin cut toys using a scroll saw.

Patsy, Mary Jo, Norma, Don and Kathie hand sanded Tugboats that had been sprayed with water based polyurethane.   So 47 tugboats were boxed up for inventory.   They also sanded the Turtle Banks (52) and sent them to inventory.  Additionally, eight boxes of toys were hand-sanded today and are now ready for sealing.

Harley, Kathie, Jim and Maggie Brown installed wheels on 272 toys today.

Nick built more tugboats as he installed tugboat cabins on the hulls.  Jerry installed stacks on the tugboat subassembly making the "tugboat".  Two more boxes of tugboats were completed today.  They are now waiting to be sprayed.

Jim Brown installed wheels on the the last box of airplane sub-assemblies to make the "airplane".

Outside today, there was power sanding and round-over routering in 53 degree weather.  Many boxes of toys and blocks were worked on,  moving them to the next operation.

We are planning to fill 40 bags with 20 blocks each.  Ken, Russ, Rollie, Jim Burk, and Stu made up the parking lot crew.

Gary Graves brought in "tops" made for our Toy Program by a woodturner friend in Colorado.  He also picked up a bunch of toys for ICU.

Stu did a test run of 12 basketball hoops using his CNC.  We asked Stu to make the hoops slightly wider.  They are slightly wider (1/4") so that the screws will better fit on the back boards.  The minor change looks to greatly  improve yields on hoop to backboard builds.  Stu will be working on at least 40 more hoops to help us complete this years basketball games.

Grant and Rick continued to rework a bookcase donated by Ron for our Woodworking Library.  Grant put two coats of paint on today and a pegboard back.  Rick installed an additional shelf (or two) in the locked storage room today.  We moved the five drawer dresser to the small store room today for easier access.  We had been unable to access the items in the  dresser when the power tool carts are moved into the locked store room.

At the end of the day, there was 1 box of toys ready to be sealed with shellac, the paddle games ready for finish,  six boxes of toys ready for final spraying, two boxes of tugboats ready for spraying, and 100 baseboards ready to finish before final assembly with the hoop/backboard assemblies.  Several boxes of blocks were ready to be bagged as well.
