2016 Toy Making Marathon - Week 6 - Oct. 15, 2016

Toy Workshop 10-15-2016 at CFB Shop – 9 to noon

Attendees (17):  Jerry Hood, Ed Pike, Danny and Mary Green, Bob and Kathie Buchanan, Lauree and Darwin Buus, Julian Wigen, Jerry Hood, Harley Schmadeke, Paul Douglas, Gary Graves, Richard Rasmussen, Ron Fisher, Frank DiCesare and Rick Weisbeck.

Tasks to prepare for workshop:

  1. Sealer on wheeled toys, spray finish on 1000 wheels
  2. Spray finish on 162 toys
  3. Spray finish on Helicopter Rotors.
  4.  Airplanes that were assembled last week were sanded (wings) and then sprayed.  A total of 112 airplanes were inventoried and packaged and give to Rick W.
  5. Quilts for cradles (made by Margaret Rasmussen) and dolls were added to 3 cradles and given to Rick W. 

Tasks completed:
  1. Wheels installed on 165 Wheeled Toys, packed and inventoried.  Included racers, caterpillars, sedans, oldies, buses, small cars, helicopters, and airplanes.
  2.  Toys were sanded, and routered, and cut on the scrollsaw.  Small critters were routered using a small 1/8" dremel router bit.
    • Two boxes of toys rounded over on router
    • Two boxes of toys rough sanded on RIGID sander; now ready for sealer.
    • Cut turtle banks to shape on scrollsaw
    • Cut seats and backs for Rockers (40).
    • Edges of critters were rounded using a Dremel Tool fitted with a 1/8" roundover bit.
    • Comic helicopters were traced on 2x4s and cut to individual blanks.
    • Comic helos:  drilled holes for windows and axles
  3. Rotors for helicopters made by Rick were installed on 3 helicopters.
  4. Strings were attached to wooden balls for the cup and ball games (30 total).
  5. Strings were attached to wooden rings for the ring toss games (40 total).
  6. String/ball assemblies are ready for the basketball games (100).

Toy Program Status. Toys completed and already in inventory at the beginning of the workshop:  1358 from last week + 112 airplanes + 2 cradles this week = 1,472.  There were 177 toys moved to inventory after this workshop, bringing the total completed to: 1,649.

Tasks to complete before next week's workshop:
  1. Sealer on 2 boxes of wheeled vehicles/wooden toys/turtle banks.
  2. Final Spray on 2 boxes of wheeled vehicles/wooden toys and turtle banks.
  3. Spray wheels for the wheeled vehicles and wooden toys that will be ready.
  4. Router edges of critters - 1/2 box.
  5. Bring all critters together to sort/count.
  6. Continue making parts for remaining toys.
  7. Make bags for Blocks.
