2016 Toy Making Marathon - Week 5 - Oct. 8, 2016

Toy Workshop 10-8-2016 at CFB Shop – 9 to noon

Attendees (19):  Jerry Hood, Ed Pike, Danny and Mary Green, Bob and Kathie Buchanan, Lauree and Darwin Buus, Julian Wigen, Lon Gose, Bel Felix, Jerry and Pat Hood, Harley Schmadeke, Rollie Lynde, Gary Graves, Richard  and Margaret Rasmussen, and Rick Weisbeck.

Tasks to prepare for workshop:

  1. Sealer on 122 wheeled vehicles, spray finish on 1000 wheels
  2. Spray finish on 84 toys
  3. Spray finish on 114 airplane fuselages
  4. Mill grooves in basketball backboards 1/16" deep x 3/4" wide
  5. Spray finish on Helicopter Rotors.
  6. Bring airplane assembly jigs:  one for drilling holes in airplane wings, one for assembling wings to fuselages, and two for installing wheels on fuselages.

Tasks completed:
  1. Wheels installed on 84 Wheeled Toys, packed and inventoried.  Included sedans, oldies, buses, small cars, and helicopters.
  2.  Toys were sanded, and routered, and cut on the scrollsaw.  Small critters were routered using a small 1/8" dremel router bit.
    • Two boxes of toys rounded over on router
    • Two boxes of toys rough sanded on RIGID sander
    • Traced 50 turtle banks, began cutting banks to shape on scrollsaw
    • 40 basketball backboards sanded
    • Airplane fuselages were sanded after seal was applied
    • Airplane wings were sanded after final finish was sprayed
    • 25 hoops assembled to backboards
    • Edges of critters were rounded over on Dremel Tool
    • Lots of wheeled toys were sanded by hand after sealing and are now ready to be sprayed with a lacquer finish.
  3. Airplanes were assembled;  wings were attached to fuselage, and then two wheels were installed.  A total of 113 airplanes are ready for the final lacquer spray finish.
  4. Rotors for helicopters made by Rick were installed on 3 helicopters.
  5. Twenty-one (21) Quilts for cradles (made by Margaret Rasmussen) were received at the workshop.
  6. Fifty-five (55) Bags for Critters (made by Pat Hood) were received at the workshop.
  7. Love Bugs were completed - 20 were distributed to R Weisbeck.

Toy Program Status. Toys completed and already in inventory at the beginning of the workshop:  1,274.  There were 84 toys moved to inventory after this workshop, bringing the total completed to:  1,358.

Tasks to complete before next week's workshop:
  1. Final Spray on 4 boxes of wheeled vehicles/wooden toys.
  2. Sealer on 2 boxes of wheeled vehicles/wooden toys.
  3. Final spray on 113 airplanes.
  4. Spray wheels for the wheeled vehicles and wooden toys that will be ready.
  5. Continue making parts for remaining toys.
